1. The information in the Counting the Ten Commandments interactive covers and simplifies this information from Wikipedia. Note that to understand the Augustine count you must consider the Deuteronomy version rather than the Exodus version. Note the addition that requires we have the Samaritan Pentateuch ... and that one would have expected this in the 10 Ritual Commandments (as opposed to the 10 Moral Commandments given here).

2. The interactive allows 4 options for the numbering of the commandments:

  • Jewish - Talmudic not Philo
  • Reformed/Anglican/Orthodox
  • Catholic/Lutheran - ignoring the difference in 9 & 10 ... and the different treatment of the prologue
  • all 3 of the items listed above; other versions included in Wikipedia are not shown

One can choose to view these lists in 3 formats:

  • stone diagram
  • simple list
  • Hebrew parallel

Unfortunately, you cannot toggle the text between the Deuteronomy version and the Exodus version. Nor can you choose the common practice of duties towards God on the first table and duties towards man on the second table. which can be useful in teaching contexts.

This the the Jewish numbering in list form.

3. This is the Reformed, Anglican, Orthodox numbering in list form.

4. This is the Catholic, not-quite Lutheran numbering in list form.

5. This is the all tradition view in list form.

6. This is the all tradition form in parallel Hebrew text form. Note I have been using the NRSV translation which may be changed via the option just to the right of the panel icon.

7. This is the Reformed, Anglican, Orthodox numbering in stone tablet form.

I think it still might be worth FL taking MJ's feedback into account and improving this Interactive.

I am sure that there are people more expert than I, but the stone tablet looks quite odd to me. Usually I see the two tablets divided by "Tables of the Law" with (since I am Lutheran) the first three commandments being on the first tablet on the left, and 4-10 on the 2nd tablet on the right.

Of course, this "tradition" may be something that was made up quite recently. :)

SineNomine:
feedback into account and improving this Interactive.

As I understand it, this is one that they had created for other purposes and have no interest in updating within the applications. I keep it in mind as an example of their concern for accuracy, when using their coding. Devil Zip it!
