Maybe I had high hopes for L7, but I feel L7 is not so much of an upgrade. I feel its just another day of LN release.

I was hoping to be surprised but I figured it wouldn't be anything too over the top. Nevertheless, eagerly waiting for my 433MB update (70% now) to be done and the indexing to begin, and then I can look around.

I wasn't expecting anything different either.  No only if it would actually download for me.... all Logos 6 is doing is saying its preparing the library but nothing is downloading....so much for the open your software and start using Logos 7 email I received....are the servers overloaded already I've never seen it take this long to go through the 'prepainng library...." stage which is a pain at the best of times but seems to be awfully slow today.

This feature depends on your computer. Some of the new datasets and labour intensive in relation to the amount of data that has to be indexed.

If it makes you feel better, mine is still indexing as well.

I feel you. The 433MB update downloaded; I restarted, thinking it'll start indexing next, but now it's downloading another 385MB Tongue Tied

Maybe I had high hopes for L7, but I feel L7 is not so much of an upgrade. I feel its just another day of LN release.

Why?

  1. Interface still the same. No facelift. (I thought this would be the first noticeable upgrade)
  2. I was hoping more than these minor upgrades (sorry I know you guys worked hard). Nothing groundbreaking or magical. No major thing.
  3. No fireworks on first opening L7.

Idk, maybe things would look different in the next release of LN in October. Wilted Flower

For the meanwhile I'll wait for base-package announcement.

It should feel a bit more than just a typical .x release. The last couple have been a bit small because we were working on several new things for Logos 7. But Logos Now members have already been enjoying most of the new Logos 7 features.

In addition to what we've already released, here's what's new in Logos 7.0:

New

  1. Sermon Editor: a new tool for building your sermon manuscript, outline, handout, and slides right in Logos.
  2. Courses: a guided learning platform for working through Mobile Ed courses and other structured learning content
  3. Bible Browser (subscription only): a faceted browsing tool for accessing our rich data on the Bible by simply using your mouse instead of learning complicated search syntax
  4. Figurative Language of New Testament: a fresh analysis of the NT's figurative language
  5. Quickstart Layouts: starting points that integrate content and tools around a task or theme
  6. Longacre Genre Analysis: an application of Longacre's genre schema to the Bible
  7. Sentence Types of New Testament: an analysis of all sentences in the NT into declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory
  8. Speech Acts of New Testament: similar to the above, but using speech acts
  9. Hebrew Grammatical Constructions: a database that identifies many key constructions in Hebrew
  10. Exploring Bible Manuscript: an educational interactive guide through biblical manuscripts
  11. An Empty Tomb: a look inside a first-century tomb that sheds light on the setting for Jesus' burial

Improved

  1. Text Comparison tool: infinite scroll and a new interlinear view that organizes translations against the underlying Greek or Hebrew text
  2. Media tool: a way to find and create sharable media (combines Visual Copy and Media Browser)
  3. Biblical Event Navigator: new UI
  4. Miracles of the Bible: added bubble visualizations

In addition, there's more to come in Logos 7.1–7.4.

Lynden mine hadn't even started downloading, it took over twenty minutes for the download to start.  I expect the indexing to take a while.  I just wish for once the marketing of this company would be open and honest instead of them stretching the truth to the point of it no longer being true.  The email communication should have indicated it may take some time for the download to begin instead of simply saying open the software and start using Logos 7.  I know I should expect Logos marketing to put out anything else but overstatements.  I guess the problem is I remember what this company used to be instead of what it is today.

I had a similar situation but mine was not as large. I believe some of the datasets could not be downloaded and installed until the new engine was up and running.

Yeap I've have had similar cycles of repeated downloads with previous major version releases of Logos software. It makes sense it a strange kind of way that this happens.

Sean:

The lack of any aesthetic improvements is a bit of a disappointment.

With our six-week release cycle, there was no easy way to get an UI updates into 7.0 without leaking them early in 6.14. We may make some UI improvements in 7.1–7.4. We also wanted to focus more on features over aesthetics for 7.0.

But I totally agree that it's nice for a new version to feel new.

I concur and add my thanks. I asked Jacob to highlight the new stuff on the Logos 7 sticky post, but this will do great in the mean time.

If you're anything like me, it might be because you're using the beta update channel? Caused me some confusion for a few minutes.

If you are, type "set update channel to default" in the command box.

This looks really, really good. It would've saved me quite a bit of time this weekend. Very thankfully, it will have many opportunities to save time in the future.

FYI, though, I don't see any documentation or a thread on it yet. That can wait till daybreak. Big Smile

Phil,

Thank you for the update on Visual Copy, it looks better. But I think you forgot to add the ability to change the font-size and font-color on visual copy :)

Can we have that on 7.1 please.

Logos 7 was always going to be an anti-climax for Logos Now subscribers, as we've been using most of the features already. If you're coming to Logos 7 without being a subscriber, then the upgrade is at least as big as it was from L5 to L6. As for us, according to Phil, we get the following, which is significantly more than 'another LN release'.

Phil Gons (Faithlife):

If you've been a Logos Now member and are looking for just what's new in this release, here's that list:

New

Maybe I missed it, but is the concordance tool in L7?
