I'd like to suggest a new highlighting/note taking paradigm.
Highlighting is great in its own right. It underscores our perception of author's main points, exposes structure and direction of thought.
But what if a book is 400+ pages and I want an overview of highlights? What if I want to see main points at a glance and jump to the right spot?
I am suggesting a HIGHLIGHTING VIEW, which would display all the selections I've highlighted (or added notes to). Although similar to CLIPPINGS, this view would use "highlights to be a "visual" form of outlining" (in the words of another user).
I am certain highlighted selections are already written to some hidden logos file. I am suggesting to make this information visible and actionable.
One of the uses I see for this is book summaries - highlighting main thoughts would provide a "bird's eye view" of the resource.
Another would be a quick "navigational scheme" for parts that need to be read and re-read. It is sort of like hierarchy of bookmarks.
Yet another would be to "digest" a book and expose it's structure, direction, etc.
I am linking a screen shot that gives the basic idea of my vision. Logos implementation could be much more powerful (in terms of using different color or style of highlighting for different levels of hierarchy, dealing with different topics, etc.).
