Can a non-Logos ebook be used in Logos?  Since it is not formatted by Logos, do you loose all the search and other benefits of the Logos format?

Curious about purchasing some dogmatics available as ebooks, currently not available from Logos.

Responses are appreciated.

Hi Kyle - and welcome to the forums.

Kyle J. Wright:
Can a non-Logos ebook be used in Logos?

For a book to be usable in Logos it needs to be in Logos format. These are available from the various Logos stores - logos.com, vyrso, verbum, etc.

The only other way to get a book into Logos format is via creating a Personal Book - https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books

They are searchable and - depending on the work that goes into them - can be quite sophisticated. They aren't available on the mobile platforms.

So to take an existing ebook and make it available within Logos would require converting it to .docx format and then compiling it into Logos.

Different countries / publishers / copyright regulations may affect how the legality of this is seen

Hope this helps, Graham

Most certainly answers my question.  Simple and direct.  Much appreciated.

Graham nailed it.

Yes, but it needs to be converted from whatever format it's in into a docx file. There are programs and websites that can do many file type conversations so I would just check what format the book is available in then see if you can find a way to convert it prior to purchasing the ebook.

My understanding is that you will lose some of the Logos indexing functionalities, but even Personal Books are quite nice to work with. Bible verses are still hyperlinked.

Do note that you can also purchase books on Vyrso. It's a different website owned by FL (faithlife) and any book purchased there will be automatically imported into Logos just like a book purchased from Logos would be. From my understanding, the style of book there tends to be less academic (dictionaries, lectionaries, original language resources, etc.) and more for a general audience (books about God in general, novels, etc).

Currently am aware of these web sites that offer resources for use in Faithlife apps and applications. Thankful for a number of $ 0.00 resources.

https://www.logos.com

https://verbum.com (seems to be a subset of Logos.com)

https://vyrso.com (Publisher provided eBook that can be used in Logos, Verbum, Noet, ...)

https://ebooks.noet.com (Publisher provided eBook that can be used in Logos, Verbum, Noet, ...)

https://www.noet.com

Please elaborate on Personal Book (PB) indexing loss understanding (or provide an example).

Interlinear PB Bibles are technically challenging => Create a reverse interlinear

Thankful for PB Bible => American Standard Version 1901 - Personal Bible without Chapter and Verse #'s (later followed by Logos and Verbum visual filter menu option for Bible Text Only that works well in many Bibles)

FYI: Logos has three indexes: Bible, Library, Personal Book that can be rebuilt => https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_7_Commands

Weird, I typed up a response to this earlier today but it disappeared into the ether somewhere.

Functionalities was not the right word. What I had intended to convey was my experience in entering Personal Books where things like the hyperlinked table of contents panel aren't there. I'd imagine it's possible to add that, but it would take some manual adjustments of the DOCX file.

If you have any details on the differences between an indexed Logos Library book and an indexed Personal Book, I'd appreciate learning more!

Adding a TOC isn’t that hard... it relates to headings in Word. Read through the wiki on pbb (link above) and if you have questions, create a new thread in the L7 forum
