I keep a spiritual journal. As I often refer to scripture and like to copy it to my journal, it would be great if I could integrate my journal with Logos.
The only thing I see in my program that would come close to working for this is the "notes". This doesn't really work for me, I'd rather have a word processor type application that would let me integrate with the Logos.
For instance, similar to the "notes", I would like to have a mark in my selected Bible where I have used that reference in a journal entry. But I would like to be able to just go to a journal and type, or read what I typed yesterday or last week, too.
So--is there a way to do this already a part of the program? If not, I'd like to suggest one be added.

Esther, I am a lower tech user, and I am not exactly sure I understand your specific need, but I might. So here is a go:
You can start a notefile called "My Journal." You can create a User Note that is found at a particular verse, say, John 3:16. You can have your journal notes distinguished from other Bible notes (say, if you wanted a type of collection of commentary on that particular verse) by making the note/post-it color different (yellow. purple, whatever. This would be helpful if you tie the same verse to two different note files types). So, when you are reading the Bible, you can see you have a journal entry tied to this. However, if you want to just "journal" and not have it tied to a verse, your user note could just be a stand alone note, not tied to a verse. Another time, you might be reading a topically indexed work, or a book, and you could place a note there, within your My Journal note file.
Well, whether this even addresses your need, I don't know. Blessings anyway.

It might not be a bad idea to have your journal notes distinguished from other notes by having a different colored icon, but I would still recommend that you go into the notes section of the "General" page in "Tools" and uncheck all of the notefiles you have -- possibly with the exception of your journal notes. Note files which are checked there are ALWAYS OPEN which means that they will slow down program response. The best idea therefore is to limit the drag on the system.

the Mac version does not have "notes" though. why... i have no idea?
What a grand idea As mentioned by Daniel DeVilder, seems a note file with the name ... (ex. Journal YYYY-MM Note File) would fit the bill. When listed among your other note files, they would sort according to Year and Month, and within the note file, date each entry with (ex. 2009-06-22 Journal) that would keep you daily entries in sequence. I love it, and have begun to use.

Logos for Mac is very limited in resources because it is a first generation application. Logos has promised to work for feature parity with the Windows version, but that will take time.

I started a similar set of notes...maybe I just need to experiment with the program a bit more. When journaling I tend to find more satisfaction in hand writing, so the computer option was certainly not comfortable in that way: I'll try your suggestion.

I have not verified all the links - though they worked when I added them to the WIKI. I use both One Note from Microsoft and TheJournal from David Michael. TheJournal can link back to LOGOS, though LOGOS cannot, at this point, link back to TheJournal. The same is true for One Note.
Perhaps others can recommend other alternative programs for creating a Journal or Notes files.

Thanks, I checked out the link. I hadn't heard of Evernote, but I Do have OneNote. The latter makes me wish I had a tablet pc. I like how you can capture many pieces of information. I am sure I only have scratched the surface of its power.
What I DON'T like about OneNote, and other options, is that it is harder to integrate with my research in Libronix. I would love it if they would make a browser within Logos so you could use word or one note--or even power point. The Notes feature is nice to have, but it is pretty clunky, imo. But since it is all I have, and there are good uses for it, i use it. It could be structured a bit better, and maybe they could help us out by giving ideas on how best to use it. Currently I have about 20 or so notefiles, and it is getting a tad unwieldy.
I hadn't heard of the journal.
This is totally different, but I have been playing around with two mind-mapping software: MindManager8 and iMindMap (Buzan's). There are some exciting possibilities there, but I am just not so tech sharp to figure out exactly how to integrate it all. Logos is my main piece of software, used daily (other than my Outlook and Firefox, I use it the most). But it is very clunky when it comes to transferring research into a written product or presentation. I like to see what I am researching in Logos and making notes immediately from that (hence my use of Notefiles), but I wish I could pull in Word or some more powerful app (one note, even) within Logos itself (like MM8 now supports internet browsing within its app).

Well, checking out the links and this link in particular has led me a merry chase! I don't know for now if/what I will try of them all, but wanted to make the point that Evernote is able to sync with some mobile devices: not mine, apparently. I have a Blackberry Pearl, and they only support Curves, Storms and Bolds.
I sincerely doubt that Evernote is what I want (haven't checked out OneNote) for the application I began this thread about, but it's still a very cool app that could enhance my life tremendously! Thanks Michael, for posting it.
Sermon File addin is the best way to go for this. IT is a place designed for Pastors to put their sermons in for future reference. What is great about them is they are searchable. Aside from that I would just create a special folder on your computer for your Journal and place it on your desktop and then just write in whatever word processor you have and save it there.

Here's a question: How does one change the title of a notefile? I know I can change the notes within the file, but once it is set up I can't seem to find a way to change the title of the notefile itself.
Second question: it looks to me as if there is no way to change text color within a notefile. Font, yes, color, no. Is this right? If so, this is somewhat of a downside to keeping my journal in the notefiles.

When you open a note file (<ctrl-o>) you will note that when you highlight a file on the will appear two buttons: "Rename" and "Delete." If you have a note file open and highlight some text then use <ctrl-shft-f> you will bring up the font dialogue. In the lower left there is a box labelled "Color" which you can change. This also works if you want to set the font properties before you enter text rather than after it has been entered.

Thanks very much, George, that's truly helpful! I have been trying to rename that file ever since I made it. Just clicking to open it from the drop-down menu doesn't give that option. I'm grateful to have the keyboard shortcut to open: but is there a way to get to that dialogue box with the mouse?
I will be better able to configure my journal file with the colored text.
