I just started this course and see three commentaries by Block listed in the linked resources.

I have https://www.logos.com/product/37655/niv-application-commentary-deuteronomy

Also listed are

 https://www.logos.com/product/162467/the-gospel-according-to-moses-theological-and-ethical-reflections-on-the-book-of-Deuteronomy

and

https://www.logos.com/product/162436/how-i-love-your-torah-o-lord-studies-in-the-book-of-deuteronomy

How similar are these books? I  expect some overlap but are they different enough to purchase.

Thanks,

Gerald

I have all three. The first is a commentary and the next two are collections of essays. I'll quote from the Preface of "How I Love Your Torah, O Lord" which explains what the latter two volumes are about:

The essays in this volume arise out of my ten-year meditations on the book of Deuteronomy. Although Pss 1:2 and 119:97 use different expressions for these ruminations, in context they belong to the same semantic field. While we normally associate meditation with devotional reading, for me the articles that follow represent deep literary and theological meditations that have been personally incredibly inspiring and transformative. We have attempted to produce a stylistically coherent volume, though reproducing them more or less as originally published precludes a smoothly flowing series of chapters. The articles included here represent literary and theological meditations on specific texts—arranged according to their order in Deuteronomy. For more general essays on hermeneutical, theological, and ethical issues raised by Deuteronomy, readers may consult the companion volume, The Gospel according to Moses: Theological and Ethical Reflections on the Book of Deuteronomy.

Daniel I. Block, How I Love Your Torah, O Lord!: Studies in the Book of Deuteronomy (Eugene, OR: Cascade Books, 2011), xv–xvi.
