What is the best way to search for all the tenses of 'sleep' (sleeping, sleepeth, sleeps, etc) where the word refers specifically to death.

Appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Here is where Logos' Bible Sense searching comes in very handy.

Try running this in the Bible search line: <Sense = to be dead ⇔ be asleep>

Or for a variant on Mark's answer run a Bible search for "sleep, asleep" (to pick up either term) and then sort then in Analysis view by the Sense

Thank you, Mark! I was playing around with the Bible Sense Lexicon trying to figure out how to do this search efficiently. After reading your post, it took me a few minutes to realize you meant to put this search string into the actual Bible Search line. (I know that is what you said... it just wasn't settling into my brain)

Okay.. So this leads me to a few questions...

1. Where did you get the search syntax from?

2. How did you know to use a search string like that in the bible search line?

3. Is there a resource(s) out there that I can learn this type of thing?

I appreciate your help. I just want to learn to do this kind of thing myself, if that makes sense and doesn't offend.

Thank you as well, Graham. I really like this idea too. It seems to let me use multiple terms in the search rather than a single instance of the syntax that Mark offered me. Although, I imagine it's possible that Mark's method could also use multiple terms? I have no idea.

When I emulate your search, I don't have the 'FUZZY BIBLE SEARCH' section that you have. Where does that come from?

Yes it could

It's enabled in all the different feature packages.

What L8 product did you purchase?

Right Click on a word in an appropriate Bible has Sense choice with left hand side option to search this resource

Analysis of Sleep results shows many senses that can be combined for search

<Sense = to be dead ⇔ be asleep> OR <Sense death ⇔ sleep> OR <Sense to die ⇔ lie down to sleep> OR <Sense dead ⇔ asleep> OR <Sense to be dead ⇔ be asleep> OR <Sense to resurrect ⇔ awaken (someone)>

I just did the Full Feature Upgrade. I shouldn't be missing out on any functionality should I?

By the way.. I tried a Search Everything search and the fuzzy search came up. I wonder why it didn't come up like yours did??

You shouldn’t be missing anything relevant - there are a few things you don’t get without a Faithlife Connect subscription.

It does require a network connection, any chance you were offline when doing the earlier search?

No.. I'm definitely online.. (always on connection). I've tried again but same results.

I'm still interested in knowing if there are resources available to learn how to do this kind of stuff?

Search has gotten very complicated as Faithlife has added more and more things one can search for. It is currently replacing the search suggestions in L7 with search templates. Those are in-progress and therefor incomplete.

You can use Logos Help to learn more of the search syntax and what is possible to search for. Unfortunately the help file does not have as many examples as would be truly helpful.

The Logos wiki article on Search Help is much more help. I'd suggest you consult that after browsing the Logos Help file. Note on the wiki page links to other search articles in the upper right of the top of the page.

Using the right click menu can be very useful to discover the types of tagging FL has implemented on a word. It is also a great help in quickly formulating morphological searches for those of us who don't do that day-in and day-out.

Hi there. I use windows and am using a utility called NegativeScreen. I'm legally blind so this utility is a true blessing, in that, it allows me to get rid of the BRIGHT white backgrounds while reading. It also allows colors to come through without being inverted.

Hope this helps.

No, it doesn't. It does have some 'other' types of inversion though.

Logos Wiki => Night Mode includes several Negative Screen configurations (so dark grey background is possible)
