When creating a sermon in Logos 8 you are given various fields to enter, one of which is the date preached. I would assume there is a way to sort/search all of these fields but I cannot seem to find anything. I have looked around in the program, looked in help, look in tutorial videos and have tried to search this forum and I still can't seem to find how to do that. I apologize if I simply searched for the wrong terms but can anyone point me in the right direction.

To be clear I am not looking for a way to search sermons that have been published by others but I am seeking the right way to sort and search the sermons I have already created in Logos 8.

Thanks for any help,

Dan

Welcome to the forums. This is from the L8 Help manual

Sermon

Labels a single sermon in a collection of sermons. A search for this label populates the "Sermons" guide section.

Creator ~ "..." — Creator is the normalized name of the person who developed and delivered the sermon.

Title ~ "..." — Title is name given to the sermon by its creator.

Subtitle ~ "..." — Subtitle is the ancillary title information given by its creator.

Series ~ "..." — The series in which the sermon was originally preached, if any.

References ~ <Bible ...> — Bible references for the sermon as a whole.

Date ~ <Date ...> — Is when the sermon was first delivered.

Liturgical Date ~ <LiturgicalDate ...> — Is typically the liturgical date when the sermon was first delivered.

For example:

{Label Sermon WHERE Author ~ "Charles H. Spurgeon" AND References ~ <Bible Romans 5-7>}

{Label Sermon WHERE Title ~ "Signs of the King" AND Creator ~ "Timothy J. Keller" AND References ~ <Bible Acts 2:37-47> AND Date ~ <Date Aug 13, 1989> AND Series ~ "The King and the Kingdom"}

You can follow this link to open the manual in logos

You can also do a basic search of your documents that will sort by type. In that search, it is not limited to the label fields, artehr it search thentire text of the sermon.

Here is a link to the wiki page that discusses searching Labels. This is similar to the information the Help File

So I don't see a way to sort by Type in my version it would seem.

Figured it out.

In the search bar I typed in "{Label Sermon}" and then they came up with the option to sort by type or title.

I must say for a program designed to help people study and build sermons the ability to search and sort sermons is not very user friendly.

Thanks for the help,

Dan

The search capabilities in Logos are vast. Unfortunately the required syntax to to take advantage of those capabilities can be complex.

Many of us have been pushing for a simplified search tool that will be more user friendly, and does not require the user to know and remember the all the various syntax requirements.

The good news is that between the Logos Help File, User Wiki, and these forums, help is available.
