Robert K. Storey:
When will the Mac Engine be ready

Serious rumours suggest that the Engine will be fully working and all the resources tagged before the opening of the first scroll.

Not only that – it will operate differently from the Beta version.
However it will be very similar to the Windows version.
It will be better but not so much as to make the others restless.

I have the above information on absolutely no authority.

No date has been set as to "when", but work continues. And its operation will be more or less the same as the Alpha version. Additional features will be in place, there will be some tweaking of how some things are displayed, and bugs will be weeded out, but the Alpha version is being designed to work like the PC version, and the final Mac version will retain this similarity.

About six months ago, there was a guesstimate on one of these forums that by this time this year that the Windows and Mac version would be very similar. It has made good progress this year, but I wouldn't say we are there yet.

If you want "guesses" from fellow users, my guess is we won't see the beta stage until this autumn. To put this into perspective, Logos Windows 4.0c which was just released, is starting for me to feel like fully developed and  functionality software. I know this is subjective based on the features and polish I wanted to see included.  So depending on what you want to see in the programme, you may feel like it is already there in one of the Alpha releases... or it may be in the beta, RC or final releases before you make that assertion.

OK, so that means that the Mac software won't be fully functional until the end of the year or the beginning of 2011?

Probably a little longer than that, but I hope it is around that time. It has taken L4 about 6 months to become fully functional once the full version was released. That doesn't mean it won't work well once the betas get rolling, but there will be a number of Issues Logos will have to fix as we find them.

Of course, fully functional is defined in different ways.  If it has the functions you need now, then it is fully functional.  Some would say that the Windows version isn't fully functional, since it doesn't yet support printing or PBB, however it's fully functional for my needs.  I know many on here are using the Logos 4 Mac as their primary Bible software now.

I think I'll put my two cents in on the matter. When we look at whats in the current PC side we are not that far off. The only few things that are still not implemented that are major features are notes, clippings and PRA. Im sure that there are others but these are the ones that are major ones. As Tom has said that there are even features that are not in the PC side yet. So I don't think we are that far off. If I had to guess I would venture to say that we are a couple of months off.

This Monday you'll be "wowed" (unless you're naturally pessimistic), and they'll have the drive to get the Mac version done before the fall semester starts Big Smile

I totally believe this is true. From all that I've been hearing, I think that the goal is to have it ready before school starts back.
