Good morning,

I am new to Logos and hope that this posting is in the right category.  Perhaps, you can help. Are the following two reference works the same?  By that I mean, is one set an expansion and revision of the other set?

Brown, Colin and Willem VanGemeren. The New International Dictionary: Old and New Testament (9 vols.)   Silva, Moises and Willem VanGemeren. The New International Dictionary of Theology and Exegesis: Old and New Testament (10 vols.) I also notice that Silva has written another similar (or identical) work.  How does this differ from the above? Silva, Moises. New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology and Exegesis (5 vols) Many thanks, and blessings, Dr. Jim

Welcome to the user forums!

Dr James Sanders:
Silva, Moises. New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology and Exegesis (5 vols)
This, NIDNTTE is the revision and updated (afaik newly organized and mostly new-written) version of Brown's NIDNT which is the NT portion of
Dr James Sanders:
Brown, Colin and Willem VanGemeren. The New International Dictionary: Old and New Testament (9 vols.)
. Thus
Dr James Sanders:
Silva, Moises and Willem VanGemeren. The New International Dictionary of Theology and Exegesis: Old and New Testament (10 vols.)
is the update of the 9 vols version

Moises Silva’s volume is better than Brown’s.  Check out this review: http://exegeticaltools.com/2015/03/09/review-of-new-intl-dict-of-nt-theology-and-exegesis-ed-silva/

Ps. The OT is a good set too for the money 💴

Hi DAL,

Thank you for the comments and kind suggestions.  Your link was especially helpful.  I had never heard of exegetical tools, but now I have.  Very good reviews there, very good.  You will be pleased to know that I ordered the complete set a few minutes ago.  Again, thanks for the guidance and words.

Blessings,

Dr. Jim
