Many of the changes to the Library in Logos 8 are great.  However, one of the least friendly functions is when browsing books from Library Filter Panel, all the resources are organized by number of books, instead of alphabetically.

For instance, if I want to browse for books written by D. A. Carson, I expand Authors and have to read each line sequentially until I find his name.  I don't naturally know who in my collection has written the most books. If I enter "title:systematic", then all the authors change order, again based on how many books the author has written with the title "systematic".  I suppose I could just search "author:carson", but then what is the point of the library browser?

The same problem exists with Series, Collections, Publisher, etc.  Organizing Authors (or other filters) by book count is really no better than organizing the Authors randomly.  I often find myself scanning the short list, then find myself selecting more several times, then realizing I must have went too far, and start reading through the list again.

I think including the book count is good, but many of the filter fields should be sorted alphabetically.  Thanks.

Good suggestion, Ron. I think it has been discussed before, but I don't remember what came of the discussions.

A workaround for the specific situation you address is to use the search bar at the top of the filter column:

I second this suggestion. Better yet, please give us the option to choose to sort by count or sort alphabetically. I have the same annoyance with the Tags being sorted by book count.

Thanks.

Peter

Yes

I agree this would be most helpful.

In the meantime, you can filter by author (author:"D.A. Carson") to browse books by him.

And if you're not sure what authors you have and want to browse by author alphabetically, you can click the Author column heading to group by author, and then expand each group as you find interesting authors to browse.
