2.  https://www.logos.com/product/166361/ancient-near-eastern-thought-and-the-old-testament-introducing-the-conceptual-world-of-the-hebrew-bible-second-edition

Is there a difference between these two or does Resource #1 contains most of the information found in resource #2?

I’m trying to choose whether to buy both or just #1

Thanks!

DAL

Ps. Also, is there any overlap in these other resource: https://www.logos.com/product/148376/old-testament-theology-for-christians-from-ancient-context-to-enduring-belief

I own the lost world series, so I’m wondering if the series is just a recap of all these resources on sale.

Thank you Robert! I have seen that TOC for all of them but that still doesn’t help me to determine whether they really overlap or not.  What are your thoughts on them? Have you read all of them?

Thanks!

I have read the first two.  I particularly enjoyed most of the essays from different scholars in the Behind the Scenes book.  I recommend getting both and I don't recall noticing any overlap.

I have not read Old Test Theology so can't comment.

Thanks! That helps a lot 👍😁👌 I’ll browse other samples before making a decision. You’re right about the variety on the essays!

Not solving your conundrum, but the title and author mix for the first one, I'm seriously tempted. The second, I wouldn't bother (regurgitated almost always, when they try to cross cultures and centuries with little actual information). The third is modern paper mache.

Thank you DAL for the title, and Robert for the TOC!

EDIT: I looked at the look-inside. That was a waste. I went over to Amazon. The single 3-star was a hoot (no offense to the pastor). He said it wasn't for normal Christians. So, there you go.

After reading 2 reviews, I ended up passing; not worth a possible refund. Anyway.

So are you still buying the first one or is it a “mache” also 😁 I’m now seriously thinking about skipping them.

Any thoughts on his OT Survey? I really respect your insights on resources. So if you have any thoughts, shoot 👍

I edited the above, while you were writing. I wouldn't mind buying the 1st, to see if it's actually in-depth as the reviews suggest. I just don't want to hassle with FL, if a refund. They always seem so disappointed, and by the time they get to the 'we have a sale' spiel, we're sort of 'ok, this didn't go well'.  On Kindle, I get instant 'bye'.

I usually avoid intro's and surveys, like the plague. Even as a Bible college student, paper mache. And I'm not even geeky.

Well, I disregarded my own advice, and got curious ... downloaded it (Behind the Scenes):

- The portions on Israel are basically re-hashed OT, with a little this and that. Exodus is 'plausible'; maybe just read Exodus.

- Iconography, literature discussion etc is quite good; the only real value in my opinion. But there's little depth.

- Cultural was a disappointment. Any intro anthropology text would do as well. I suspect Carol Meyer got her marching orders; normally she's top-notch.

- Articles take pages to get wound up, then some depth, then you're done. A lot of page flipping.

So, as I surmised ... called refund. He was nice.

At the same time, I got another really interesting volume:

https://www.logos.com/product/149275/the-development-of-greek-and-the-new-testament-morphology-syntax-phonology-and-textual-transmission

Fairly recent, 700 (seven hundred!) pages of really in-depth hard to follow discussion of greek development. He's trying to get beyond Erasmus, but ignoring that, quite amazing.

It wouldn't run on my Noet, so it got refunded too. I'll re-buy for sure down the road.
