Despite using Logos it seems like many years, I’m still am lost in doing certain and what I consider simple task. So, i ask for grace if I don’t get your reply initially and may have to dialogue back and forth.

What I’m tempting to do today is when I read a particular verse in any Bible, to have something whether it be a yellow sticky or something else to be able to to another source within Logos.

Example I’m reading Boice’s commentary on Sermon on the Mount. He states something about a verse let’s say Matthew 5:44. I think I want to use an an anchor but I’m asking so what do I know. But when I read Matthew 5:44 I want to be able to have a indicator that will take me to the location in Boice’s commentary on SOTM where I was originally reading.

Additionally, I might want to have a note attached to my orIginal location in SOTM.I thought I had Notes somewhat down, but apparently not. When I highlight what I want to reference, I highlight the text, I then do what I need to do to have the same text in the blue, click note, write a note, attempting to perhaps make an anchor (bring me to this text, I click anchor, I navigate to indicate Matthew 5:44, hit done and all that happens is the text is in yellow. But no yellow note, by the text I just highlighted, nothing by Matthew 5:44 when I go to my ESV Bible.🤪

I attempting today’s action on Logos 9 on my iPad, but I be truly grateful if you could instruct me on both iPad and Mac app.

I hope I make sense, humbly ask can someone help a slow to learn old guy

thanks

We can't create notes that take us directly to another resource - but we can have a pointer to other resources in our notes. So we end up with a two-step process - a note in a Bible that links to a commentary.

The first thing to do is copy the location of the resource you want to link to - open the panel menu (three dots icon on the top right) and choose Copy Location as URL

Then create a note against Matt 5:44 in your Bible, ensuring that you have the reference selected at the top of the context menu

This creates a note - and you will see it has an anchor to the verse. So it will be visible whenever you come to that place in any resource that understands verses. You'll see I've entered some text pointing to Boice's commentary.

To make this active, we need to paste in the location of the resource that we copied above as a link - we do this by selecting the text we want to make into a link, clicking the link icon, pasting the location in and saving it

Now we have an indicator in the Bible showing a note is present and, hovering over it, displays the contents of the note. Click the note to open it

Then, hovering over the link in the note, will show the text from the commentary. Clicking it will go to that place in the commentary

I hope this all makes sense and helps.

Please advise if any of it doesn't!

I noted your request to know how to do this on iPad and Mac. I've outlined the Mac options (it works the same on Windows). While we can create notes on the mobile apps, we don't have the same level of control in linking to resources so I thought it best to start here.

Thanks, Graham; It took a few minutes just to figure out how to reply.

I tried your solution and though I've not had 100% success, yet. I'll try again later as I'm in the midst of something else right now but I'll get back later.

Thanks again

Graham provided a direct method for adding a link!

Here's an option which uses an anchor to link the commentary to the bible reference.

  1. Highlight the commentary text to add a note to the commentary.
  2. Ensure that a note icon is selected (so that icon will also appear next to the bible text).
  3. Add a bible reference anchor to the commentary's highlight.
  4. In the future, you can click on the note icon appearing in the bible to open that note...
  5. and then click on the commentary link (e.g. EBC MT-LK) to open the commentary to that location.

Thanks to FL for including Carta and a Hebrew audio bible in Logos 9!

One of the nice things about Petah's approach is it works much better on mobile than my suggestion!

Hi Graham,

I finally had time to return to your steps and I think I got it! I'll need to practice to store the steps so a month from now, I hopefully will remember.

Much Thanks!

Greetings PetahChristain,

It's taken me a few days to try your steps, but haven't gotten it down, but I'll keep trying. Per Graham, he says your approach is better for a mobile

(iPad) and I do a lot of studying using the iPad.

Much Thanks
