Somehow I got onto the Beta update channel. How do I revert to normal updates?

 "Set Update Channel to {default|stable|beta}"

set update channel to default. Is the one you want.

This will install all future beta versions (assuming you have already installed the beta) and when the next gold candidate comes out you will upgrade to it then it will not go onto the next beta cycle. If you have not installed the beta, then it will only update on service updates.

Um, I fear you think I am smarter than I really am. I am too obtuse to know HOW to set the update channel to default.

You are smart Donn,  its just your a visual learner.  This is what Philip said:

1) Start typing SET UPDATE in the command box

2) In the drop down that appears, under the heading TOOLS select SET UPDATE CHANNEL TO DEFAULT

3) Click on the blue Go button (or as we say it in Australia 'Moving Forward' button) to execute the command.

When the current beta is no longer a beta you will no longer received beta updates on the regular updates.

Correct me if I am wrong, but setting to Default will only keep you from getting further Betas, but it won't revert your current Beta to the current gold/normal/official release (whatever term makes sense to you).  If you are running on Beta just fine, no worries then, just keep it as is.  When the current Beta cycle goes gold, then you will find your release will update to that.  If your Beta is causing problems, however, you will need to uninstall Logos 4 and reinstall the regular release.

If you are running a beta then the the default update channel is the beta channel. A beta installation set to default will receive each new beta.

The default behavior of a stable version is to only update to a stable version.

See: http://wiki.logos.com/Update_Channels

You are correct that to go from a 4.1 beta to 4.0d one would have to uninstall 4.1 (and delete the Logos 4 folder) and reinstall the 4.0d.

Hi Dan,

According to the wiki page, http://wiki.logos.com/Update_Channels I think you are wrong.

Setting to default will continue to get beta's on the current cycle and then the next gold release, then it will only get gold/ service releases after that.

I think that this is the correct choice because if he is on the beta, he probably has less risk in upgrading to new beta's than in staying with a very one one and if he did not get on the beta, he will not go onto it.

Correct.  I had forgotten that.  There was a long thread about that busines.

Believe it or not, I did consult the wiki page before posting.  Still got it partially wrong.  Embarrassed

You guys are making my head hurt. So, bottom line, what exactly should I do? I deleted my Logos 4 and started over thinking that would solve the problem but alas, it reloaded the beta.

Was there something about the wiki page that was unclear? Should it be modified in some way. I remember the thread in question; it was long and convoluted because this issue is confusing to most people! If we can make it clearer, I'm all for it.

Can you describe exactly what you did?

If you installed the beta you have to uninstall L4 and use  http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe to install the latest Gold (non-beta) version.

My recommendation is to stick with the beta. It's pretty stable (except for opening the Biblical People/Places/Things - some are getting crashes), and you get to try out all the new features. I'm using the beta as my primary tool right now with no issues.

If you must do a reinstall, first type this in the Logos4 command bar: set update channel to stable. Then uninstall L4 through the Windows uninstall menu through Control Panel ("Add/Remove Programs" in XP and earlier, "Programs and Features" in Vista and Win7).

Richard--this is for my education: do you recommend setting the update channel because of the synchronization feature?  I just assumed if you were installing from scratch, and using the proper link that Dave Hooton (aka "Hooten" Devil) has in his post, that it would load the current gold version, and automatically be set to default.

That's where I am at, and I love it.  But for full disclosure and to cover for our advice, there still is potential risk in Beta use.  Surprise

It sounded like the OP did do an uninstall and re-install, and after the update channel still defaulted to beta. This means that either he did not do a complete uninstall, or a setting was left dangling that affected this. My solution was to change the setting first, avoiding the potential of an incomplete uninstall, or a setting left behind by a full uninstall. I don't have any inside information on how this all actually works, but figured my solution would cover either scenario.

You're right. I hinted at that, but could have made the potential risks more clear.
