Suggestion: Introductory books on Patristics
Milkman's post on the Church Fathers (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/25233.aspx) made me look at my Patristics shelf and 3 books that really ought to be in Logos:
- Boniface Ramsey: Beginning to Read The Fathers
- JND Kelly: Early Christian Doctrines
- Olivier Clément: Roots of Christian Mysticism: Texts from Patristic Era with Commentary

I'd also be interested in Drobner's Fathers Of The Church: A Comprehensive Introduction.

Well you know, if Rick Brannan is suggesting it and he is somewhat of an 'expert' in this field, let's get it. Why doesn't Logos simply ask him to make a list of Patristics and go from there. Might as well not dilly-dally around. Many of us are looking for good reads on the Fathers so let's go. Of course with the huge amount of requests Logos is facing and with all their other commitments, fixes, bugs, updates etc., a little bit a slack would be in order.
So maybe next month we could get all these suggestions on the Church Fathers ready.

These are standard introductory works on Patristics, that would be very useful to have available with Logos links directly to the ECF.I admit I don't know the Clement, but both the Kelly and Ramsey are classic works I have used a lot. I see the Ramsey just had a new edition. It would be great to have in Logos.

Yes, Drobner is excellent for background on major writers and information about their writings.
Another good one is Moreschini & Norelli's two volume "Early Christian Greek and Latin Literature: A Literary History" (here: http://www.amazon.com/Early-Christian-Greek-Latin-Literature/dp/0801047196/)
The easy part is suggesting and gathering lists. (We've done this internally for years; both Drobner and Moreschini & Norelli are on such lists). The part that is more difficult is obtaining licenses for this material; the even more difficult part is creating collections with material licensed from different publishers.
A short example with these two books: They are both translations (Drobner from the German, Moreschini & Norelli from the Italian). They were done by Hendrickson, but the titles are now owned by Baker Academic. Working through all the layers ownership/licensing isn't necessarily easy.
Just because we (Logos) see that a book would be a good fit for our users doesn't necessarily mean we can just do it. There are layers of things to work through.

Email sent there really does get read, and the suggestions really do get counted and tracked, and they really do help us in knowing the sorts of things you folks are really interested in adding to your libraries. I think I never sent any mails to suggest@logos since I definitely remember the manager in charge of these things posting here on the forum and tellung us that every post in the Suggestion subforum is monitored.
Thus I always thought, mails duplicate your internal efforts and forum posts have the additional value of inspiring other to either give support (which may help you gauge purchasing interest for you internally as well as for your negotiations with the publishers) or enhance with related suggestions, such as has happened here in the thread.
Should we make it a habit to double-up our suggestions with mails?
