BUG: Links to collections saved in Favorites no longer work

The new "feature" of always opening the collections window to a new blank collection (in 4.2 beta 6) has broken the links I have saved in Favorites to particular collections. These used to work correctly, and now they all open to Unnamed Collection:
In addition, the collections window also displays "unnamed collection" when a layout containing the collections window is loaded (at startup for me). It should be the show the same collection as when the layout was saved.
Also, why was this feature added? To keep people from accidentally modifing their existing collections? There has to be a better way to prevent that. I really liked that the Collections window always opened up the the last collection I was working with. Now I have to select a collection every time. Can I register my dislike of the new feature?

Newly added Favorites do the same. I'll report this.

Many users, upon opening the Collections panel, did not realize that they were modifying their last active collection until it was too late to use Undo. We felt it was non-standard behavior to open to an existing collection and could easily lead to data loss.

Melissa I added the second paragraph (about layouts) to my original post while you were posting. I hope you can make a note of it too.

I understand, but you could accomplish the same thing by putting Collections window in a browse-only mode when opened--requiring the user to click an Edit button to change or the New button to add. I would love it if it did that, plus the collection definition fields could be hidden in browse mode, allowing us to see more books in the listing.

I am deeply disappointed that i now see a blank panel as working with/viewing collections is a part of my work ethic. The truly non-Standard behaviour arose from the X delete method, where it was all too easy to delete a collection! Now we see a quick reaction to something I had never thought to be a problem. The Collection tab is part of my Layout. So:-
- it is blank when I first select it after starting L4
- I repopulate it and move to another tab, thereby hiding its contents
- when I reselect the tab it is still populated!
What is the difference (for protection) between selecting the tab to find it unpopulated and later selecting it when populated?

After playing for this for awhile, I have to say I wish it was back to old way too. I can't say I have seen a lot of support issues on the forum related to people wiping out their Collections by inadvertently editing them. It was very simple, once the Collection is up it's yours to do with as you like.
1 vote for the old way here...

I believe there was a thread related to this -- perhaps started by or supported by Rosie. Anyways, I was one who had edited by mistake and lost Collections because of it.

I proposed a suggestion similar to this on Oct. 28. I like your suggestion also.Todd Phillips said:Aaron Sauer said:Todd Phillips said:I understand, but you could accomplish the same thing by putting Collections window in a browse-only mode when opened--requiring the user to click an Edit button to change or the New button to add. I would like to suggest that when reading view is selected in collections, that the "plus these resources" and the "minus these resources" sections be hidden. It would seem to me that when your collections are finished and you want to read through them, you wouldn't need to see those two sections. If you did you could just uncheck the reading view in the resource panel. If possible it would also be nice to see the name of the collection in reading view.

This will be fixed in the next beta.
