Known Issues

  • On iPhone OS 3.1, some characters appear as boxes in books that have been downloaded

Thanks, Dave.  I am going to give it a try now.

Thanks Dave. Great update.  All my offline books updated without a problem.

Quicker download!  Still have trouble with layout of text.  In the Christian's Secret of a Holy Life I used to get the title and date overlapping each other.  They are still that way before I download and there is no title/date at all once I download.  I get the same thing with Exploring the New Testament.  The outline for the chapter being discussed, like Colossians, has the title overwriting the chapter/verse references.  When I download I lose the outline.  All I get is "Outline" but nothing under it.

Kaye, thanks for the feedback. Before downloading a book, things will look as they did with 1.4; it's after downloading that the new layout code takes over. I am not seeing the same thing as you when I test Christian's Secret of a Holy Life or Exploring the New Testament on my devices. I see the title and date on the first and the online on the second. What type of device are you using? And do you know what OS version you have?

I can verify that Lexham Discourse Greek New Testament now lays out correctly.

Nice work on this update, I am excited to see what is coming down the road at us. Keep up the good work. [Y]

    Dave,

I have the 32 GB, non-3G iPad (model MB293LL) with the latest OS upgrade (4.2.1-8C148).  When I went to the App store to get the update, it said installed.  I removed the old app, rebooted the iPad and was able to add the new app.  I downloaded the resource, opened it up and saw that my date/title text was missing.

Sorry I can't send you a screenshot.  :-(  It's not a big deal to me.  I just wanted to let you know.

I tried this and, for what it's worth. I experienced the same symptoms with Christian's Secret... before download, but it displays properly having downloaded it. iPhone 4

    Hi all,

Anyone having problems with the new app exiting upon startup for resources that are available offline?  Seems with the MacArthur study bible resource (NAS version and loaded offline), the app will start, then exit as it tries to load the page from that resource.  If the resource is not available offline, it works ok (will load the page)  Other resources seem to work ok offline, but not the MAC NAS one.

I removed the app (the only way to get it working again), and reconfigured.  Seems to work ok as long as "that" resource is not made available offline (from my simple test case).

Others having similar problem with other offline resources (causing the app to exit)?

    Curious,

    Paul

With doc not stored for offline use.  As you said, the layout is still weird.

Thanks for testing it out on your iPhone.  Must be an iPad only thing.

Yes, that resource crashes the app for me too.

Why does everything take even longer than before? It is really slow. I removed and reinstalled the app. Could it be trying to sync? I wanted to download the ESV, but it would not let me... I type in a title in the library that used to come up quickly is now taking over a minute...Please advise.

Yup, I have the same "problem". Good to see that the new way that the program renders text fixes these alignment problems. Currently only the "offline use" books are displayed in the new engine. I've been told that the online text will be corrected soon.

John, I wondered the same thing, and figured that it was because everyone and his brother were all trying to do the same thing at the same time... using up all of the available bandwidth.  Just my thought.

The iPad re-downloaded 70+ of my 460+ offline books and then decided to go to sleep for the night (after I went to bed).

Is there a way to keep the iPad from going into sleep mode?

Go to your iPad settings then look under the General tab. Change Auto-Lock from whatever it is to Never and the iPad shouldn't lock/sleep.

I would tend to assume that the Logos app would continue downloading even if the iPad has locked, so you may be hitting some other issue. Myself and others are having trouble downloading the ESV Study Bible, is that in your download list? There may be some other resources having issues. But you might try removing the ESV Study Bible from your offline books and see if the download will continue as it should.

Wish there had been a way of removing unwanted/read books before they got downloaded again..

I guess I should have read release notesd before installing [:P]

Overall it is very encouraging to see substantial progress with this current release (Logos for iP-hone/od/ad 1.5.0). True I can't download the ESV SB for offline use on my 3rd Gen iPod Touch but at least I can still view the ESV study notes when I open a cross reference in the ESV bible or open the study notes online.

I thought it was supposed to be faster, it doesn't appear that way to me, takes way more time than the previous version. Also, how do you delete a downloaded resource that keeps trying to update but is no longer on the device. (Bible Knowledge Commentary). I'm actually quite tired of the broken promise that all of our library resources would be available on our mobile devices.

Doing what, specifically? <edit>Also, if you're currently downloading bookings that will slow the app down. Once the books have downloaded you should notice an improvement.</edit>

    Good question. Don't know, sorry.

I'm actually quite tired of the broken promise that all of our library resources would be available on our mobile devices.

I'm not aware this was ever promised. Logos is entirely in the hands of the publishers on this one. If they refuse to give permission, I'm not sure what Logos can do. If there's a resource you miss, I'd contact the publishers if I was you.

I suppose there is not a fix to this problem until the next release?  The Holman Bible Atlas crashes every time after 10 minutes of downloading.

If your primary Bible has been downloaded, but not updated for version 1.5, Bible reference popups will not display correctly

I don't quite understand this one.  My primary Bible is CUV (Chinese Union Version).  The CUV itself displays beautifully (thanks!) but Bible reference popups are still using the old larger font and the sentences are still cut off because of incorrect formatting.  I have the iPad, am on iOS 4.2.1, and Logos 1.5.  What else do I have to do to get my Bible reference popups to display correctly in Chinese?

    Thanks!

    Peter

This referred to non-updated Bibles displaying a null error. It's a separate issue to yours, which I guess is a bug.

Dave - maybe I ave missed this, but is it possible to do a clean install of the Logos App on Ipad - removing all downloaded volumes to start again. I have 1600 books downloaded - now with better of idea for using (invaluable) I could remove the books and reinstal, say 100: I need a quick and easy method ... can it be  done?

Just completely uninstall the app, then re-install it. To do this, press and hold on the icon, until the icons start jumping around. Then press the X to delete.

Colin, I believe that the easy way would be to have a collection set up on the desktop and let the app find it and then sync it to your device.  I have advocated this for a while now, but have never heard any one else think that this would be a good idea.  Many want all of their books on the device, however, I like you have found that this is not needed... I hope that Dave will be able to help us out on this one in the very near future!

how do you delete a downloaded resource that keeps trying to update but is no longer on the device. (Bible Knowledge Commentary)

This is a particularly unusual situation with the BKC. Try this:

    1. Put the device into airplane mode
    2. In Logos, find the book in the Library
    3. In the book info view, flip the switch to off
    4. Turn off airplane mode

If the publishers have already given their permission for me to be able to purchase and download to my computer what is the issue with that same resource being available on my mobile device. Maybe Logos could come up with a way for us to copy the resource from our computers to the mobile devices for our use.

Common sense agrees with you, but the publishers and the law don't. The licence you had when you purchased the resource was a licence for it to be used on a desktop computer only. The fact that it can be copied from a desktop to a handheld device unfortunately is irrelevant. The problem is not the technology (easy to solve), but the publishers.

Cannot get my Bible Reading Plan to sync with my iPad with 1.5.0.

Using NASB95 Bible. Tried deleting plans, re-adding, deleting the app, re-signing in, hitting the sync button on the computer-- all to no avail.

This is very frustrating since I do almost all my devotional reading on my iPad. Anyone else having this issue??? Any ideas on resolving would be much appreciated!

How long have you waited? The Logos servers are apparently rather overloaded at the moment, and syncing reading plans in taking a while.

Anywhere from an hour to a day. All that I get on the iPad is the basic "Read the Bible in a Year" reading plan. It used to work fine with my last two reading plans but for some reason I cannot get it synced to the iPad. The Reading Plan on the computer is tracking fine.

I agree it could be clearer ('A library in your pocket' would be better), but as you say, it's a banner advertisement. As such, it's meant to be clicked on, and the landing page gives a pretty clear indication of what to expect, including a link to those resources which are available.

What upsets me is that I just paid $99 bucks for a collection of books I was looking forward to being able to read on my iPad only to find out after the fact that they are not available to download to my mobile devices. No where in the description did I find anything stating that "This product is not available for mobile use".  I am becoming very soured on this whole in the cloud technology and these net controlled/linked apps. Just give me something I can installed on my devices that works standalone and only requires network access if I want it for updates and such.

No where in the description did I find anything stating that "This product is not available for mobile use".

Underneath the product image on every product page, and close to the add to cart button is a box that says "Works on". It will tell you whether it's available on the iPhone, or just Mac and/or Windows.

    Works on:
iPhone and iPad; requires Logos 4 base package
    Macintosh
    Windows

There are a lot of resources available: http://www.logos.com/products/search?Platform=Internet - though some important ones are still missing, as you've discovered.

That said, I'm sure you could return the collection if you needed to, and get a refund.

I am becoming very soured on this whole in the cloud technology and these net controlled/linked apps.

The problem is not the cloud at all, but rather publishers who are struggling to come to terms with the electronic era at all. It's entirely a permissions issue - will the publisher give permission for you to read the books you have purchase on multiple devices, or not? Sadly some publishers believe they will lose revenue in allowing you to do so, even though (in my view) that thinking is flawed. Nowadays I presume Logos insists that publishers allow you to use the resource on multiple devices, but when your collection was created, that presumably wasn't the case.

Just give me something I can installed on my devices that works standalone and only requires network access if I want it for updates and such.

If you have a Logos 4 base package, you will be able to read any books that are authorised for mobile use without network access.

My custom reading plans are no longer showing up.  The iPhone app just shows the standard reading plan to read the Bible in one year.  The reading plans are still on my Logos 4 desktop.  The bummer is that the custom reading plans are the main reason I use the Logos software.  I read in the morning before i get out of bed.  I am very disappointed by this bug in the software.  Unfortunately, the other bugs I and others reported previously are still not fixed.  If Laridian or Olive Tree had custom reading plans for their mobile software, I would use those and remove Logos from my iPod Touch.

    A very disappointed customer,

    Steve
