Individual note titles: bug?
I don't know why this is happening, but I find that when I browse through a note file, some of the main text appears in the next to the title, for some the first line, for others several lines. This is NOT text entered in the description field but in the main field below. This makes for a cluttered view (even in compact view). Why in the screen clip below don't I just have "Church, purpose of" appearing in compact view? Why is the first line included but a paragraph for the next entry (Compassion of God)?
I include a shot of the expanded view:

In your first screenshot, all of the notes appear as they should except for "Compassion of God" and "Conflicts." In Compact view, the Title and part of the first line of the Content text (in gray) will appear. For those two notes, are the additional lines in French from their own Content or others?
When in Compact view, the active note where the cursor is will be expanded, but the others shouldn't be. You can click out of the active note somewhere else in that panel to collapse that note. In Full view they should all appear expanded.

Thanks for responding so quickly, Melissa. I am not sure I completely understand your question. Are the additional lines in French: the second screen shot shows the content of Compassion of God to be in English. I am not sure what you mean by "from their own Contents or others".
Question with regard to what you indicated is normal: the first line of the Content text in gray. Why is that? Does that not add clutter? I guess if we do get a TOC at some point, it will provide a cleaner look at just the titles.

Your first screenshot shows several collapsed notes with their first line of content displayed in gray next to their titles, which is by design for Compact view. However, the two notes I mentioned above appear to have several lines of gray text below them, not one. This doesn't look right, so I was asking whether that text is associated with other notes, and perhaps the colored note indicator and title isn't visible in the screenshot.

The first line of content text was added to Compact view as a preview of what is in that note.

Hi Melissa,
I have 80 note files, and out of those 80 note files, I would say 70 of them displays more than one line of text for each note in a note file.

Melissa I understand what you were asking better. Here's the deal: in the first snapshot, the Contents of the French note "Conflits" shows as if it were that of the previous, English entry "Compassion of God". However, expanding the respective notes shows that the contents are not mixed up. They just appear that way in compact view. Here is a snapshot of "conflits" expanded that you can compare with the previous snapshot of "compassion of God" expanded:

This should be fixed in 4.2a SR-3.

Hi Melissa, thanks for trying. I have downloaded and installed the update. This has not solved the problem for my topical notes whose headings are text. However, the Bible notes whose headings are references look great. So, there is some progress but the problem is not completely solved yet.

I keep issuing the Update now command, but it shows no updates available beyond
4.2a (4.21.5.0550)
Do I need to switch from the beta channel?
Thanks you all SO much for working on this duplicate notes problem. Its HUGE!

Yes, to get the service releases you need to switch to the "stable" channel.
Once they have downloaded and installed you can switch back to the beta channel if you wish.

I still have this problem, and here are two screen prints:

I'm having the same notes problem in 4.2a SR3 that Francis described - topical notes display multiple lines on Compact mode but Bible notes seem to be OK.

Francis, I noticed this today as well in a note file imported from L3 (using 4.2a SR-3). In looking through my other notes, it seems to be related to note files imported from L3.
Could this be part of the problem?

Richard, it is well possible since I did migrate a while back from L3. But be it as it may, it remains a problem to solve because I cannot be going back and have way too many notes to move them manually to new note files.

I agree. But if the issue is related specifically to notes imported from L3, it could narrow down the bug to something more specific.

I do not know if this helps, but all of my notes come fro L3Richard DeRuiter said:Francis said:Richard, it is well possible since I did migrate a while back from L3. Correction: Bible notes are not fixed either.
This had been fixed, but apparently was regressed right before release. It is fixed again in 4.3 Beta 1 (and confirmed). If you prefer not to install a Beta version, the fix will be included in 4.3 when it is released.

I installed 4.3 beta 1. I confirm that Bible notes are fixed (notes attached to Bible references) but not topical notes (notes referenced as simple text entries).

Are these imported notes? Does the problem also occur in newly-created Logos 4 Notes documents?

Yes, these are imported notes. I don't have note sets that have been created after I switched to L4, so I can't answer the second question.

Would it be possible to have you attach one or two of the problem L3 note files to an email to Logos4feedback@logos.com so we can reproduce and troubleshoot the continuing problem?

Hi Melissa, I sent two files, hopefully the right ones. 1. Notes and 2. notes.db.journal. Both were found under AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\e2rsdia4.dme\Documents\Notes.
If you meant other files please let me know which and where I may find them.
Thanks.

Thanks. We received the files. These will be fine for now. I'll find out whether or not developers would also like to see the Logos 3 note files that were imported (if they're still available).

Well, I am not Francis,
But I just sent you my L3 note files for http://community.logos.com/forums/t/29691.aspx, and I can tell you that this issue still happens in my "Class Notes - New Testament One" and "Class Notes - New Testament Two" note files.

Francis and Tom,
After installing Beta 3, have the additional lines disappeared in the preview text?
Sorry, I got ahead of myself. I just noticed that a fix did not make it into Beta 2, but should be in Beta 3. I will follow up with you again in a couple of weeks after the Beta 3 release.
Melissa
