Logos Bible Software version 4 is here!!!

Yaaay! So hopefully soon it will be available for download!

The screenshots on the platinum page look pretty cool. The UI seems to be simplified greatly and that's very exciting. The current UI is so unnatural!
The upgrade pricing is not what I expected, an upgrade to Platinum v4 will be $743 from my Scholar's Silver version 2 while the upgrade to Gold v4 is $526. What are your upgrade options looking like?

I have Gold, my upgrade to Platinum is $425 and to Portfolio is $2,480

I would call customer service because its possible that the upgrade cost doesn't take into consideration other resources you have that were not included in Gold/Silver.

Is there an option to sync with your iPhone? Also, is the only way to download 4.0 to purchase an upgrade?

I walked this through the order process (stopped just before "confirm") to see if it is available on the payment plan (it is.) I noticed a message on the checkout that said my pricing was a unique individualized upgrade. I think the Logos database calculates the unique price based on the registered licenses we have synchronized with it. For example, I do have the Version 3 Gold level but have a few expensive add-ons. Those add-ons are now rolled into the base package in Version 4 Gold level. l now surmise my upgrade is cheaper based on the expenditure I already made. If this is the case, I probably would not be allowed to sell off those version 3 add-ons as duplicate purchases since they appear to be credited towards a cheaper upgrade price.
ANOTHER THING I noticed is a few of my current Ver 3 Gold level titles dropped from the Ver 4 Gold level package and only appear in the higher packages.. Reminds me of losing Barclay's Daily Study Bible when ND library came out. (Did Bible & Spade suffer the same fate?)

Zachary from where did you get the installation files?

I am looking for it now, none of my books are showing up right now, but thats a different issue altogether!

My upgrade to Scholar's Library was free (I assume because I just bought it about a week ago). So I upgraded, and it gave me all the links. But like I said may not have been a good idea, none of my library is showing up in it!

I did see a "crossgrade" $69 from my Ver 3 Gold that appeared to have a skinny package. My upgrade page shows a richer content than the "crossgrade" and offers the "upgrade" for $147. Since I'm a book nut, I didn't bother comparing the skinny or the fat Golds. I only looked at the Platinum & Portfolio.

Logos 4 is now downloading 5.8 GB of data from them web, this could be a while! Something tells me I didn't do this right, but it seems to be fixing everything on its own.

If you installed the program but have not yet downloaded the resources that might explain the lack of anything showing up in your library. Do you have Logos 4 pointed to your 3.x resource folder(s)?
0 -
Yes, it's here - the interface is familiar - looks like a programmers' environment - that's good. I have a a few problems initially but I've not yet tried to resolve them. - library appears as if empty; Bible people and a couple of other things grayed out ... I'll try it out more thoroughly tomorrow.

I'm noticing the choice between a 3.x CD or DVD-ROM and downloads on the order pages for individual resources like Liddell Scott http://www.logos.com/products/details/1772
Are the resource files different and not compatible between 3.x and 4.0? I wonder why Logos 4 resources require a download.

Zachary,
That's how it works. You first download the installation programs (about 50 MB) and then, after you have synced your licences, any missing or updated resources will be downloaded (in your case 5.8 GB). The size of this latter install will depend on the library ordered.

Bryan,
Logos 3 resources are compatible with Logos 4. But, all the resources in the new packages have been rebuilt - they are individually smaller and better tagged.

Logos 4 operates in the cloud meaning that Logos will make sure all your files are up-to-date rather then having to update them yourself.

If I could find were to do that I would, the user interface is VERY different from version 3, it will take some time to get use to.

There is no need to point v4 to your v3 resource folder. It will scan these automatically (it finds them itself)

Philip while some part of the program may include cloud-type connectivity, what I'm talking about are the actual resource files that will reside on my physical computer. When I run a search in Logos 4 I'm searching files on my computer, not files on a server somewhere.

This did not happen for me, nothing is showing in my library now, and I would think that 5.8 GB is everything that I have not just the difference between the 3.0 Scholar's Library and 4.0

It depends on the size of your library. Also, the new media products are almost 2GB in and of themselves.
The program will collect all the resources (either from 3.0 or the servers) and then install them in your library. This will take time.

It will index all the files, so technically it will be searching an index (get ready for a long indexing process). However its true that the resources will be physically on your computer. In order to make sure the program and resources stay with the current versions Logos will monitor when and automatically download the physical book files when it needs to.

Bryan - an example:
LSJ under 3.0 was 172,000KB. Under 4.0 it is 104,000KB. All rebuilt resources are substantially smaller.

Might be Helpful:
v3 and v4 can exist on same machine, so I guess we can learn v4 without feeling like we're treading water with lead boots, though I expect we will all be swimming in no time..[:D]
Oh and the new Searching is Awesome, the indexing as Philip says can take several hours, but the results are truly amazing
takes 4.5 minutes on my v3 to do same search.. did you see the box 8.37 secs - WOOOO!!!
The indexing time pays for itself over and over again, thx for listening to us Logos, we wanted faster searching, and we have it...

Can we update the engine to 4.0 yet, or can that only be done with a library upgrade?
I actually don't own any library yet, just a couple hundred independent resources.
Thanks!

I think you will have to wait for Washington state to wake up a bit first, though I imagine this will be an early morning for some Logos employees...Bob P. probably didn't sleep much.

I'm glad some folks are up... I've just upgraded from the old Gold to the new one. Downloaded the programme and got it installed correctly - but I can't see any resources and nothing seems to be happening
(First time using the forum so hope this ends up in the right place...)

Someone needs to give them a call over there in WA and tell them to get on the ball! We have questions!

well ask away, and if we can answer we will, at least if I am able...
I think now its Public/on the website the NDA I signed has ended, so yes I have been involved (in a small way) with the beta testing I may be able to answer some of your questions before the cavalry (Logos staff) come in if its to do with using/running program

I purchased 4- Gold upgrade, when the download started it asked me to "find or save" I saved, clicked the file but it will not run or upgrade.
Did I miss something, it is not following the normal process it has in the past?

How long have those of you who did beta testing been using Logos 4?

About 6 weeks.

Damian how does it run on the 1000h? I've got the same netbook and I'll be running Logos 4 on it.

Bryan,
I haven't changed my specs. I should.
I maxed out the Ram (the whole 2GB) and added a 350GB 7200MHz hard drive.... it runs like a dream.
With only 1 GB, it struggles a bit... My notebook is finding the going a little bit tough.
The Hard drive space requirement will depend on your library. I have a very large library of books and the index will be about half the size of the library. So, you need room to move.
The only real problem I face is with indexing. On my machine it takes about 15 hours. The mighty little warrior has done me proud with a continuous rechurning of the index (which will now hopefully come to an end!)
Fire away with any other questions - here to serve...
EDIT: I've just updated the netbook specs. May show soon.
