I havethe three volume print version of Gurnall's Christian in Complete Armoour. Here is a quote:

"Prideful by nature, man would like nothing better than to be his own god (though for clamoring so high he got his fall). Find a doctrine that nourishes a good opinion of man in his own eyes, and he will show himself a glutton at its table."

Here is a quote from the Logos resource:

"Man naturally would be a god to himself, though by clambering so high he got his fall; and whatever doctrine nourisheth a good opinion of man in his own eye, this is acceptable to him, and this hath spawned another fry of dangerous errors" Gurnall, W., & Campbell, J. (1845). The Christian in Complete Armour (53). London: Thomas Tegg.

The Logos version must be the original, public domain version but I sure like the "updated" version better.

Just sounding off.

Observation 1:  My dead tree version (Hendrickson p81) matches the Logos version's verbiage here.

Observation 2:  I have highlights and underlines all over the page, but missed that selection on my first read through.  I shall highlight it in in your honor Terry.  Wink

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Dr Boice read this passage outloud at a Bible conference in Cincinnati about 10 or 12 years ago. I didn't have the book at that time but quickly did. The 3-vol dead tree version was first printed in '86 by the Banner of Truth. The modern language version is superior....... IMHO.

I'll definitely concur that a modern version would have been a blessing.  I'm still wadingeth througheth the archaismethness of it.
