I guess this means that all loyal Southern Baptist users of Logos Bible Software are hereby warned against using the 2011 NIV as their primary or other Bible. Tongue Tied

To give this thread more context, all Lifeway (SBC) materials were printed with King James references once upon a time.  Then the NIV84 came along, and Lifeway began printing materials with a side by side comparison to satisfy the young and old.  It is less of a concern now that the HCSB has replaced the NIV84 in all printed materials to my knowledge.  A vast amount of churches still use the NIV84 however (that's a lot of pew Bibles!), so it is more or less a strong point of clarification and yes, warning.  In the end each church decides what it will do.

Just don't pressure me to boycott Disney again! Stick out tongue

Before this becomes yet another debate about Bible versions, language, accuracy, political correctness, gender, and/or the SBC, let's remember that the forum guidelines strongly discourage that sort of debate in these forums.

Aha!

Well, since the SBC makes $$ every time a HCSB (versus a NIV) is sold, and they have to pay Zondervan royalties or use rights when the NIV is used in printed materials...

As they say: "Follow the money!"

Eric, you're right!  The convention had to pay Zondervan for all the years of quoting scripture out of the NIV in publications.  If anything, it was a cost cutting measure!

Also since you brought it up, I think we should be more specific, Lifeway Christian Resources owns B&H which owns Holman which owns the HCSB.  While it is an entity of the Southern Baptist Convention, it receives no monetary support in the form of donations from the convention or its churches.  Its actually a religious not for profit in good standing with the convention.  Just as Moody, Wheaton, and DTS have found ways to remain afloat through book publishing, Lifeway does the same.  You might want to rethink the "follow the money" comment.

*sorry for the late edit on the post above*

to show Lifeway's autonomy from the convention voting, it does sell the NIrV, TNIV, and I can only imagine the NIV2011 will be on bookshelves shortly.  I think this speaks "volumes" Wink

EDIT: OK Richard I'm done! Zip it!

I, too, hope Lifeway stores sell or continue to sell the NIV 2011. I personally like the NLT in a number of places, and am also looking forward to having the ISV in Logos (hopefully soon).
