Happy, Happy: The Works of H. A. Ironside
Joy, Joy: D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones Exposition of Ephesians (8 vols.)
What resources were you blessed to acquire this past week? Commentary on each resource is appreciated.
27 volume Boice commentary. Really excited about this, though I do not think it will dislodge Johnnie Mac as my favorite.
International Standard Bible Encyclopedia. I haven't played much with it yet, but I was very excited by the few resources I chose to look at.
I passed on some other deals.
I requested "best offer" prices on a couple alternative selections (items on my "to buy if they ever go on sale" list) to the list we were sent. I accepted the prices offered me and bought them.I was tempted, but passed for now on the Camp Logos Live DVDs, choosing to (hopefully) go all through the manuals instead.
I bought the Baker Theology Collection, which I've had my eye on for a while. The EDT is a helpful backup dictionary, Schreiner's NT Theology is really excellent, Carson and Kaiser's books are both well worth reading, and I'm looking forward to familiarising myself with the rest of the collection.
I was really happy that this sale came around when it did. It was finally a great time for me to buy the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary. I have not really used it yet but am anxious to based on all of the great reviews.
I have been wanting this for quite some time.

(I'm looking forward to the new Anchor Bible volume on Genesis, which will be offered as an independent book, I hope )

Between the sale and winning one of the $30 credits for the medium hide-and-seek question one day, it was a good Logos week
What resources were you blessed to acquire this past week?
After a solid pep talk with self: "Jack, take a deep breath and repeat after me, 'I will not purchase, no matter what is offered.' there, now, don't you feel ready to resist?"
Then, Dave Kaplan contacted me. Long story short: I now own WBC, Lenski, and Exposition on Prayer.
Have debated on WBC for years, finally gave in at a very good price.
Lenski I once owned in dead tree version, but for some reason passed the pre-pub offer. Milford prayed for me while flying over, so I needed a Lutheran resource. One excuse is as good as another when purchasing Logos resources. [8-|]
Exposition on Prayer looks very good so far.
Okay, so I've wanted the Anchor Yale Bible Commentary (84 vols.) and the International Critical Commentary for ages. Missed the Anchor set on pre-pub and NEVER forgot it. So, after obtaining the "best offer" prices, I decided to purchase both sets. Although the ICC set can be found on-line in a free format (i.e. PDF, etc.), I quickly discovered, after downloading 4 of the books, that getting them in the Logos format would be invaluable.
Well, my book budget is blown (or well spent) for a LONG time, but I'm already using and am happy with these resources.
Blessings,
Christina
I fell for AYBD. Now I just got to find some of the cattle on a thousand hills to help support it.
Did I hear a moo?
I picked up Tyndale Commentaries (49 vols.), An Exegetical Commentary: Revelation (2 vols.), The Life Application Bible Commentary (17 vols.), Christian Theology, 2nd ed., and last but not least, ESV Study Bible Notes.
I just finished my Pastoral Counseling class so my favorite acquisition from last week is the
Biblical Counseling Collection
I also finally picked up
Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary
Thrilled with both!
It was all Greek to me... and Hebrew
At last got BDAG/Halot and great deal on other useful resources especially the Language DVD which I hope will fly over the pond soon.
John
Budget restrictions meant I could only pick up a couple of resources (and that's even with the credit I won throughout the week!)
So I got The ESV Study Bible Notes and the Commentary of the NT use of the OT. Pleased with both.
After much debate and discussion I got, the BDAG/HALOT bundle, been on my wish list since I first got Logos, John Piper Collection and Sermon Manuscript bundle as well as the Greek New Testament Discourse (7 Vol) Bundle.
Happy with purchases, though may push back my planned package upgrade a little now.... oh well!
For me it was:
1) Theological Lexicon of the Old TEstament. I had the New Testament one and wanted to fill out the Old.
2) Lenski's Commentary set. I had this in hardcover but recently sold it and was looking forward to buying it in Logs.
3) College Press NIV Old Testament set. Have the New Testament and wanted to fillout the Old.
Very happy with these. I did have a hard time making the choice becaue I wanted the ISBE, ABD, ICC, and others but had to think about budget and use. Will I use this recorse more than another?
There were a lot of good titles to choose from, but I already had a lot of them.
Dave Kaplan fixed me up with:
The Life Application Bible Commentary (17 vols.)
I also got the Camp Logos Live DVDs
I picked up the Word Biblical Commentary, A.W. Tozer Collection (which I had on my list for some months) and The Essential IVP Reference Collection Version 3. Had to pass on some others but next time.
1) BECNT
2) Ariel Ministries collection
Can't offer much commentary since I haven't had time to do much of anything with them yet [:(]
I got a great deal on the A. W. Tozer Collection (57 vols.). I've been wanting this lot for quite some time now but wasn't willing to pay what Logos is currently asking. I also took the opportunity to complete the Warren Wiersbe's Old Testament "Be" Series. And as a "wildcard" choice, I took up the offer of the N. T. Wright Collection (34 vols.). Tom Wright has been a favourite of mine for a while now. I've got a number of his books in paper form and would recommend this collection to anyone who hasn't read any of his work. Well worth the read! I look forward to the next collection by this author from Logos (there's nothing been mentioned by Logos just yet, but I do hope they put wheels in motion). That's my book budget depleted for quite some time now but I'm one very happy bunny [:D]
