PBB Bug:"Could not remove existing resource"

Since beta 8, Logos only allows you to compile a resource once - unless you exit Logos and reload. This is very annoying when you're experimenting with source documents, and want to rebuild to see if your changes have worked.

Not sure what you mean in respect of the thread title and this comment e.g I can compile a resource many times and see the effect in terms of milestones, references & text, and only need to exit to rebuild the index for searches.

This has not been my experience.
I have intermittently gotten this error throughout beta testing however, most of the times closing open PBB books or closing and re-opening the PB tool will get me past it to compile a book.

Here's what I do:
- Open PBB.
- Rebuild a book.
- View the book.
- With the book still open, press rebuild.
- Receive the error message.
- Close the book.
- Rebuild again. Still receive the error message.
This happens every time for me.

When this happens do you have any other PBs open? I've had to close all open personal books to get it to work before. Is the source document open in Word?
Have you tried closing and reopening the PB tool?
If you can get this behavior every time I bet your logs might be of interest to development, I've always forgotten to upload them with mine and I couldn't duplicate this behavior this morning when I was recompiling books with the new beta.

Mark, I can confirm the behavior.

Have you added a note to this resource and is the note document open when you rebuild?

In my instance Melissa, the determining factor is that the previously compiled document is open in Logos. If I close it before attempting a recompile - no problem.

Do you mean the source .docx document that the PB was built from? I'm able to leave my source document open (in Word) during compilation.

I mean leaving the compiled pbb book open in Logos while trying to re-compile.
Your observation is correct that having the word *.docx open or closed has no effect. It's the open PBB that is causing the issue.

I'm glad. It's just started working for me! As far as I can tell I'm not doing anything different from before...

If the book is open when I start the rebuild, the book will automatically close, and then reopen when compilation is complete. We have seen the message come up if the book is open on another computer (in this case a Mac) when rebuilding it (on a PC). If this isn't the case for you, are the panels part of a saved layout?

This morning when I tried this, the book closed and then I got the error. (log file for that is above). Now when I do so - the book closes and then reopens when it is complete.
No the panels were not part of a saved layout. I had just loaded L4 for the morning.Melissa Snyder said:We have seen the message come up if the book is open on another computer (in this case a Mac) when rebuilding it (on a PC). If this isn't the case for you, are the panels part of a saved layout?
Before testing just now I did a close all command.

Melissa,
I just tried to do so again and had mixed results.
I did several compiles successfully as I was making changes to my word document.
Then suddenly it failed with the above message. The resource (let's call it A) that I was compiling wasn't open any longer in Logos so I clicked compile again...same result. I noticed that it said close all, so I closed my word doc - closed another PBB (named "B for this purpose) and got the same result. Finally I closed PBB (named C in this instance) and clicked recompile and PBB "A" compiled fine.
Logs attached.

I've submitted your logs to development. Thank you.
Follow up: Thomas ~ I am trying various ways to build and rebuild books to reproduce the problem you're getting with the PBB. It may help us to see a video of the steps you are doing up to the time of the error, if you have time to get a screencast, and to know what is open, in Logos and on the computer.

I've just had this in beta 10.
- I created a short document with some test links in it
- I built the document
- I tested the links
- I edited the source document
- I closed the resource
- I clicked 'Finish', 'Edit', 'Build Book'
- I received the error message

Thanks Mark. I've just returned from a week's vacation. I'll try your steps to reproduce the problem and report to development.
Follow up: Using your repro steps, I'm still not able to reproduce the error. Could you provide the things developers requested from Thomas, such as a screencast, etc.?
