PBB request: read the headers and footers

I've noticed that when attempting to put page number milestones in the header or footer of a document it doesn't get read by the pbb compiler. It would, IMHO be quite handy to put the simply field code for pages into the footer and forget about it.

e.g. [[@Page:{PAGE \*MERGEFORMAT}]]

I had exactly the same thought earlier today, although personally I'd put the page number in the header. But then I realised that it wouldn't help. Word doesn't store the page number value, it just stores the fact that the page number should be inserted, so Logos would still not have access to the actual number.

I've run tests (obviously not using the header/footer) using the field for page number and as long as I update fields before saving and compiling the book it does work.

Or are you referring to how the header/footer would work differently instead?

Yes. Because the header/footer is only stored once in the .docx file, Logos would still need to calculate the page numbers through the document, which is pretty tricky, I think.

Although the subject of this thread is "read the headers and footers", am I right in assuming that the real request is just "insert page numbers automatically"? (Is there anything else from the header/footer you would actually want inserted into a scrolling Logos resource?)

More than likely - I can only imagine wanting page numbers in that situation. :-)
