I am THRILLED to see the William Ramsey collection ready to leave community pricing!!!! I don't understand how, as I have checked daily and it has been at just under 80% forever... and then today, it suddenly jumped to over 100%
This set has been my chief desire in Logos since back when I started with the company in floppy days. I was elated after years to see it offered in Pre-pub after requesting it for so long, and was heartbroken when it was suddenly moved to CP. I was afraid I would never see it.
I have collected (over many years) Ramsey's works and have original editions of virtually everything he has written. They are however, bulky and fragile, a problem for me as I travel extensively on the field. Also, of course, to have these works in Logos is a HUGE advantage, as there is a lot of data contained in them. I draw from them constantly when I prepare lessons.
I know many have argued that this set is dated. Yes, he wrote at the turn of the century. But to this day, there is no one to even come close to the encyclopedic knowledge that Ramsey gained through his lifetime of research in ancient Asia Minor. Much of that information remains unpublished in any other source, and remains largely forgotten, despite appearing as footnotes in any serious scholarly work on the Book of Acts. In fact, I believe there is much that his works contain that cannot be retrieved from more modern research, as so much has changed in modern Turkey. Ramsey wrote at a time when many geographical conditions had not changed greatly from the days of Paul... or at least, were much more traceable than they are today.
So, let me encourage anyone with an interest in the study of the Book of Acts or the early church to strongly consider this purchase. They are not light reads by any means, but still retain a wealth of information for the diligent student. They are still deemed to be classics in their field. 16 volumes for $30 is ridiculously inexpensive for the value this set represents foe the study of the NT... at least for me.
A thousand thanks to Logos for finally publishing this material!!!
Emile
Thanks Emile for the insights into Ramsey's work.

It is over the top! 100%! Closes next Friday!
We should easily see it go for $25, maybe even $20??
*smile*
Even $25.00 would be a big help!
Soooooo Close!
Peace to all!
Philippians 4: 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand..........
Knowing full well that I may not make the cut, I am in for $20.

I too echo the sentiment expressed by Emile.
As one who has also requested for the inclusion of William Ramsey - here http://community.logos.com/forums/p/20397/153272.aspx#153272
This may come across as not being grateful. Please Logos can you make available 'Pauline and other Studies' by W.M. Ramsay perhaps as a standalone?
I can't wait for this resource to ship and many thanks Logos for the addition of Ramsey.
Thanks for highlighting this, Ted. Would be a good addition. Not sure why it wasn't included. Most of his other major works are here, other than St. Paul the Trav. & Roman Citizen (which is already included in Logos). Can I add the plea for this work to either round out the collection or as a stand alone?
Its over the top at $25
alabama24: Knowing full well that I may not make the cut, I am in for $20.
lol, I'm in at the same. With a well worded blog post that's most likely the reason it has hit the line and already dropped $5, I suspect we'll be in before the deadline... however I have been wrong before!
Alabama and Paul... looks like its inching towards the $20 mark! You might get your wish!
Anyone who hasn't bid (or has bid lower) should bid at least $15.
If you don't realise how influential Ramsay has been, try a Search in your Entire Library for: "William Ramsay" OR "Ramsay William" OR "W. M. Ramsay" OR "W. Ramsay"
Excluding Bibles, one in every ten resources I own acknowledge Ramsay.

...so far we're saving $779.95 (97%). I think that's fair
In for $20. That's only 2 lunches or so; I hope I'll find Ramsay useful.
But I've got nearly $200 in "book" orders coming my way next month, as well as my monthly payment on the EEC. I can't afford my Logos habit!

I would have to outlive Methuselah in order to read what I already have, yet I check Pre-Pub and Community Pricing lists regularly. Thanks be to God that He has called one of my grandsons to preach!

If you're interested in Pauline studies or NT background information, such as geography and regional history, Ramsay should be quite helpful. He is quoted various times by F.F. Bruce and John Polhill in their works on Paul (http://www.logos.com/product/3112/paul-apostle-of-the-free-spirit) and (http://www.logos.com/product/3357/paul-and-his-letters) as well as Lukan studies since it was Luke he was trying to disprove in his research as a non-believer. Hope this helps.

When I retired from the USN, I promised the government that I would make them pay for my time by living until the Lord returns. After that, I don't care what they do with the money.
