Logos 4 Books in Logos 3

First of all, I can't find where the books in Logs 4 are downloaded to in my computer. Second, are the books in Logos 4 of a different type than Logos 3? Can you copy a Logos 4 book and put then int he Logos 3 resource folder and use it in Logos 4?

They are working on a script that would let you update your Logos 3 books with your Logos 4 new purchases.

That would be great. I seriously would curtail my Logos spending if they don't end up letting me perform the Passage and Word study guides according to my collections. The book "Typing" is also ticking me off. A monograph type for dictionaries?

Yeah - same here. I just canceled all of my prepubs ($2500 worth - I know, I have a problem) and not purchasing another product until I get cross functionality of utilizing the resources I purchased on 4.0 AND 3.0. That's a bare minimum deal breaker for me.

When did the prepubs switch from being made for Logos 3 to become being made for Logos 4? Monday?

This "typing" exists in v3.0.
It is only thanks to 4.0 that corrections may be made to some of this bad metadata.
When the programmer responsible for this recovers from his illness he will implement the system (also note that he is working on this at home while on sick leave)

Nice. But I still desperately wish that I could use my own collection in the Passage and Word study guide. I hope the programmer for that has been sick too.
What do you mean by "implement the system"?

All the prepubs are good for BOTH 3 and 4. In 3.0 you will still have to install manually. In 4.0, this is now automated. That is the ONLY difference.JeremyEllis said:When did the prepubs switch from being made for Logos 3 to become being made for Logos 4? Monday?

Then why are people canceling prepubs?

The system that allows corrected metadata to be pushed to us without requiring the download of complete resource files. This will allow for improvements in numerous areas - book names, author names, resource types, series, and so on.

Please slow down on your actions. (You could have cancelled your Pre-Pubs as they come due if you still feel that way then. You may never see those initial low prices again. You will regret this if you have a change of heart.)
Logos 3 will do the same things next month that it could do last month. It has lost no functionality. You probably did not expect Version 4 to be released until next Spring. By then I am confident the features you desire will be implemented. Last month you were happy with Version 3, right? You can get a refund on your version 4 if you must. But consider the fact you can use any newly purchased resources under Version 3 and still come out way ahead.
Choose your Battles wisely. Is this the hill you want to die on? I hate to see you miss out on something good.

OK, Everybody. If we are that unhappy with Logos 4 as currently presented, let's just pretend that it did not get released and the whole whoopla is just another "Library Builder" special. You can buy impressive sets of books at unbelievable discounts and manually download the resources to your Version 3 computers. Forget about the Version upgrade until they get it polished.
I found literally thousands of dollars of resources that I really like and would hopefully, someday, purchase. BobP & Co. made that possible. They did not owe me anything. They have always treated me kindly and with respect. The software has always been better than the competetion. Logos 4 runs many times faster than Version 3. The user interface is much more intuitive. The customization options are endless..
At least Logos is not forcing you to abandon Version 3 to ensure the success of Version 4. (Cant' say that about Microsoft or Zondervan now, can you?)

You can use your own collection in the Guides. Under the GUIDES menu go down to "Make a new guide template". Add a collection. That's it. Easy. I have completely customized the guides leaving off the sections I don't use and adding all the sections I do in one guide. It's perfect.
Cancelling prepubs over this? I just don't understand; Logos has demonstrated for years that they do care about the interest of the customers. They aren't shoving this down our throat (you still get to use 3 if you want; you haven't lost anything). They have spent millions to develop an app that's better than until a week ago was the already the best Bible Study app out there.

THANK YOU! This is what I have been waiting for people to tell me. Even the Logos reps didn't mention this to me. But I understand that it has been a hectic week for them.

And Jeremy, if you name the guides - "My Passage Guide" / "My Exegetical Guide" / "My Bible Word Study" - the program will use these in place of the system defined guides from the home page and they will always appear in your right click context menus

I don;t know. Maybe because they are overreacting to bad information?

Glad I could help. A general rule that I learned the hard way during beta testing is that (except for the known missing features which are being added over the next months) there is a way to do it, it just isn't the way that you did it in v3. Remember when you were learning version 3 how it didn't seem intuitive at first? But then after you did it a few times you couldn't imagine why anybody would have a problem with it? Sorta the same with with Logos4, except that for new users, I don't think they'll have as big of a learning curve.

I appreciate the post and concern.
I canceled all my prepubs because I shouldn't have to manually download the books I got in the upgrade from Logos 3 Gold to Logos 4 Platinum. When customer service told me that I would not be able to use those 4.0 new books on my 3.0 system, that really dismayed me.
I found out later from Bob that they would be working on that in the future. So I take him at his word.
When that time comes, then I will start adding some prepubs from scratch...if its too much at that time, then I will have to forgo the purchase.
Its more of a principle thing for me.

For someone like me, not as skilled at this program as you are, it is not as cut and dry as easy. After you add a collection, such as journals, what is the next step to preform to insure that when you do a search that your material will be displayed in that search? Thanks for any help that you could give.

Larry...ah..now I see what you're asking...here is a video...
After you make a collection; just do what the video shows:
guides>make a new guide template>name it>load it up with your collection>surf to the right collection...then close it...there you go!

Will you post them on the Facebook page or in the Wiki. Things can get lost here, but we could refer people there.
