I am needing a little eduction here.

In the past I have often seen forum posts about the lack of Catholic and Orthodox resources in Logos. Thanks to this year's valiant efforts by Logos in hiring Andrew Jones and offering these resources among others:

we seem to have begun meeting the needs of the Catholic user base.

My question in this thread is prompted by a non-Catholic user commenting on the continuing sparseness of Orthodox resources in Logos. Because of my ignorance of the writings and practices of the Eastern tradition, can somebody give a list of important resources that Logos could publish for the non-Catholic, Eastern Orthodox user base? I am sure many have been posted in threads as suggestions but they are mixed in with other suggestions.

I am hoping to get a list specifically limited to Eastern Orthodox. (I don't even know how to categorize my request. Embarrassed) Part of my interest is piqued by St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church in OKC having their fall festival. A Lebanese co-worker of mine was an active member there. Thanks for responses.  MJ? Wink Anyone?

Super Tramp:
I am hoping to get a list specifically limited to Eastern Orthodox.

What - you want me to leave out the Assyrian Church?Tongue Tied Note: you won't go wrong with any of the books by these authors

Timothy Ware now Bishop of Diokleia Kallistos is an introductory source:

  • The Orthodox Way
  • How to Pray
  • Philokalia (with others) 4 volumes - essential text

Vladimir Lossky is essential introductory theology:

  • Orthodox Theology: An Introduction
  • The Mystical Theology of the Eastern Church - a classic on the topic

Alexander Schmemann is a favorite across denominations:

  • For the Life of the World: Sacraments and Orthodoxy - most loved by evangelicals
  • The Eucharist Sacrament of the Kingdom: Sacrament of the Kingdom
  • Introduction to Liturgical Theology - a classic on the topic
  • Great Lent: Journey to Pascha
  • Of Water and the Spirit: A Liturgical Study of Baptism

St. Gregory Palamas, the "Augustine" of Orthodoxy:

  • St. Gregory Palamas and Orthodox Spirituality by John Meyendorff
  • The Homilies
  • The Triads

Scriptural commentaries see:

  • Theophylacht of Ochrid
  • Johanna Manley

Other essential titles:

  • The Power of the Word: In the Worshiping Church by John Breck
  • Scripture in Tradition: The Bible and Its Interpretation in the Orthodox Church by John Breck
  • The Way of a Pilgrim and The Pilgrim Continues His Way - included in some Buddhist readings lists Smile
  • On the Prayer of Jesus by Ignatius Brianchaninov and Kallistos Ware - or other books on the Jesus Prayer
  • Paths to the Heart: Sufism and the Christian East by James Cutsinger
  • The Art of Prayer: An Orthodox Anthology by Igumen Chariton

I would expect others to add titles - some of which I'll be embarrassed that I failed to think of.

Orthodox Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."

Include them too but please identify them as such because I would never know the difference.

I welcome any additions. No need for embarrassment. You are my go-to person and a virtual walking encyclopedia of non-Western traditions. Thanks!

Finally this can be updated to 5 volumes ... too late for Super Tramp.

Philokalia Vol. 5 is finally here (almost)

First you resurrect a thread with Milford and now with Super Tramp. They were both good people!

Well, after having resurrected Fred Morgan last week, it did seem appropriate to give some dearly missed people who requested resources they didn't live to see, a bit of appreciation for their efforts.
