Personal Books disappear before I can finish
When I try to create personal books, the dialogue seems to suddenly go away on me - for example, while I am typing the title, or selecting the .docx file, the dialogue suddenly goes away (and I'm back to the list of books I've made previously). It's very frustrating.
After the dialogue disappear, if I look at the list of personal books, I can then kind a blank, unfinished book (which is apparently what I was just working on). But when I press edit and the dialogue comes up again, the race for time begins again. If I don't get the title, author, and .docx file selected in just seconds, it disappears.
Any ideas why?

Timothy - I am sorry that I can't help you. What kind of computer and input device are you using? You might want to upload some logs for others to examine.

I can verify this bug. I have just been putting up with it. If I get all the information in and it starts working, it will close and still make a book, but it is frustrating. It didn't do this at first. I am running 4.3 SR-6 on Windows 7.

This is 4.3 SR6 on Win 7.
After watching a little more carefully, I realize that it is actually doing a couple of different things. Sometimes it just suddenly jumps to a different part of the list of personal books, and if I scroll around I can find the (still open) new book dialogue I was working on. But other times, as Jerry noted, the new book dialogue closes and you find yourself suddenly looking at the list of existing books. As he said, it still makes a book with whatever information you had added up to that point.
I can upload logs if I need to. Seems to just be a bug in the programming for that panel.

Logos should be able to reproduce this without your logs.

I've had the same issue. Just been dealing with it for myself, but it does happen enough that I'd think it's not a fluke. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Well, not "glad" but...you know

I have had the same issues the last few days.

I see this issue about 10-20% of the time

I have not been able to reproduce this issue. It would probably be most helpful to get a screencast of the issue occurring. (Jing is a free utility that will allow you to take a screencast.)

I can verify this bug if it is a bug. It seems to happen when you enter text identical to something entered previously in the Description field. A couple seconds after entry, the window disappears and your work is lost.
Just be sure information you enter here is unique. Also it might be good to enter a description early and make sure all is well before adding a lot of data in other fields.

I can click "add book" in Personal books and type abc for the title and then dfg for the author and within a few seconds it closes and only retains the title when you go back and reopen it. It has become a race to get in all in before it closes.
Edit: Mark, you may be on to something because I have made a large number of personal books, which means the potential for duplicating letters increases, but the problem could be something altogether different. I just know it didn't start until after I had made over a hundred books.

ditto. I open the form to create a new book and I know the dialogue will close after a few seconds. When I reopen it everything is completed to the point it was just before it closed. Once I have reopened it it seems to stay open but when I click on build it closes again a few seconds after clicking build. I then open it again and click build again and everything is fine.

Development has taken a look at the issue and determined that it is an issue involving sync updates. It has already been resolved for 4.5. Please let us know if you experience the issue again after updating to 4.5.

Yes - updated to beta channel to get 4.5, and problem was solved. Thank you.

I am having similar experiences on a smaller scale. I would like to incorporate small docx files. Each time I attempt to add a new book I am faced with the personal book application closing before I can finnish. I have 4.3 on windows. Don't know where to go for this beta.
I'm dealing with it by using the "find" command to get to the unfinnished personal book. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Kathy - If you would like to try the beta, you should make sure to read the warnings. Logos 4.5 is currently on beta 9, and is pretty stable (but is not a "stable" release, hence "beta"). WARNING: Logos 4.5 introduces a new sync infrastructure. Because of this, it changes things (how highlighting is handled, for example) on your account which cannot be undone (these changes will occur for everyone when 4.5 goes live).

I have been considering trying PBB but this thread has kind of made me leary. Any idea of how far along 4.5 is? Are we probably still looking at a while? I don't usually participate in betas.

You can use PB as this is part of the stable 4.3 release - no need to beta. Actually, this strange thing is one of the rare bugs that are confirmed in the Windows version (as compared to what Mac users seem to see) and it may be a rather unique thing. Most users can use PB without any issues, some say they did over a hundred books.
Have joy in the Lord!

Kathy and Rick,
I would recommend that you go ahead and use Personal Book Builder, and not worry about the beta. I'm sure they'll get it fixed in a stable release soon.
Kathy, you're right that you can find the personal book that you were working on using the find feature (or even just using the scrolling bar and locating it in your list of personal books). I would just deal with that hastle instead of worrying about the beta version.
Rick, it's really more of just a little annoyance than anything that's really wrong with personal book builder. I would recommend you jump in and start using it despite this bug (and you may not even have the bug!). PBB is really a wonderful feature.

I was having the same issue a while back and posted the problem here- http://community.logos.com/forums/t/40560.aspx
It was listed with another problem so didn't get much attention.
But it is not isolated to you alone.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably give it a shot very soon.
