BUG: 4.5 RC1 Crashes While Syncing
4.5 RC1 (4.50.0.1843) crashes while syncing with Use Internet:= No.
Background: Under 4.3 (and previous) kept Use Internet to No, since scrolling tended to be jerky. Would issue Sync command manually when needed. Updated to 4.5 RC1, and with Use Internet set to No, L4 crashes while syncing. If Use Internet is set to Yes, everything works fine; no crash when syncing. As an interesting aside, scrolling no long appears to be quite so jerky under Use Internet = Yes; I assume this is related to the new sync routine.
Crash and Error logs attached.. Computer specs in signature.
Thanks.

Concur Logos 4.5 RC 1 is crashing; would like to see diagnostic log files; wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging
Hoping diagnostic log file, especially Logos4.log, shows context for crash.

I can confirm that.
- restarted v4.5 with Use Internet = NO
- clicked in a couple of resource tabs + right click on a word
- issued Sync Now command followed by CRASH.

KS4J: Thanks!
Here are the 3 logs produced (once I turned on logging).

Looking at Logos4.log file, noticed two items are being uploaded for sync then downloaded, followed by crash.
One upload is Copy Bible Verses preferences, which can be changed or set by opening Copy Bible Verses, change some setting, optionally change setting back.
The other sync upload is a Resource View Preference, which may be for ESV so can try changing a view preference (e.g. font size, show ...). Also noticed other resources in Logos4.log file, ESV was first one when looking up from sync upload.
After changing a preference, can click sync arrows to see if sync crash disappeared.
Another option is launching Logos 4.5 RC 1 to a blank layout, then open desired resources.

Thanks for your attention to this.
I tried your suggestions and tested; it still crashes. I'll attach the new set of logs in case the programmers need them. I can live with the workaround of setting Use Internet = Yes, as the performance is much improved.
I can also add that the crash happens on a Win XP machine (latest Svc Pk), also.

There isn't an easy workaround as I got it to crash on random inputs. I posted a bug report in the PC Beta Forum linking it to this thread.
Best to avoid Sync Now i.e. restart with Use Internet = Yes when you want to sync.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Running "sync now" while working offline is not a supported scenario. (If you haven't logged in, the Logos 4 client may not have the authorisation cookies it needs to complete the operation successfully.)
We will fix this so that it doesn't crash if "sync now" is entered while working offline.

Thanks, that's good to know.

It's fixed in RC2 - you can't sync whilst offline!

Something in the recesses of my memory, (and my memory frequently goes to recess), told me that the statement quoted above is not a universally held assertion, if the term used, "working offline", is synonymous with the term I used, "Use Internet = No" (which was the condition of my crash report). Sure enough, when I look up synchronization in L4 Help in the shipping version of 4.5, this is what I see:
"Synchronization
Access your custom documents and settings on more than one computer
PREREQUISITE: For synchronization to work, the computers must be signed in under the same logos.com account.
• Synchronization is enabled by default if Use Internet is enabled in program settings.
• To sync once when Use Internet is disabled, type sync now in the Command Box.

You're right about the past but I suspect that the Help will quickly be changed as Sync Now requires credentials that are gained only from Internet being enabled.

Thanks for all of your follow-ups and congrats on reaching 10,000 posts!
I probably should have looked in Help before I posted the bug, then I could have reported the documentation bug, as well. The Help in L3 was so dreadful, I lost the habit of consulting it.

Thanks for reporting this. The Help file is out-of-date on this point; we will update it.
