I'd like to request that highlighting which now occurs when creating a note be available for searching.
Appears search can only find words in Note abbreviated ... title.
Option: can comment and/or vote for Logos User Voice suggestion => Highlighting and Notes Integration Improvements includes: "For note titles, please add choice to show abbreviated or complete highlighted selection."
Keep Smiling [:)]
Danny - There are distinct advantages to what KS4J is suggesting… but I want you to know that you CAN search highlighting now. Under you search options, you can choose palettes or specific highlighters.
thanks for your reply, but you are misunderstanding (due to my lack of clarity).
When I am in a resource and I choose a block of text, right-click and say "add note to blah blah note file" Logos highlights that text in addition to creating the note in my note file.
What I'm requesting is that, since that block of text in the resource IS highlighted, it be treated as highlighted text and thus searchable in the way shown in your image.
Danny,
Do you mean searchable in the notes, because Alabama's screenshot shows you can search for the highlighted text in the Library.
Okay, perhaps I am doing something wrong, so I've attached a screenshot.
on the left is a note made in a resource. The note was made by choosing that portion of text and then making the note. The result is that the text is highlighted.
On the right is a search window. You see in the drop down that I can search my highlighter pens. But searching for a phrase from the highlighted text on the left yields no results.
Okay, perhaps I am doing something wrong
Nope. You're not doing anything wrong. The method that we are describing is searching by using a palette… but you aren't using a pallet. I guess that is what KS4J meant by not searching truncated quotes. Sorry my friend. [:)]
An inelegant work around would be to always use a pallet.
Okay so I'm not doing anything wrong :-) What I am doing in the meantime after I make the note is to actually highlight the text with a highlighter as well as you say. But let this stand as a request !!
It makes sense that if text IS highlighted, treat it as highlighted for search purposes :-)
Another work around currently is highlight using iOS app since iOS 2.0.2 app places all of the highlighted text in the Note title. Currently not know how Logos will "fix" Logos 4.5a and iOS 2.0.2 differences populating Note title; personally dreaming of all highlighted text being in Note title, which would be searchable in My Content (and across various highlighting styles and palettes). Ideally, Note file display could have option to show complete title or fit on one line (perhaps with a Title toggle button next to hyperlink).
Yes that would be nice! Or Logos could have another field in the notes called the "quote" field, that fills with the full text of what is highlighted. Then it would appear in my content. I prefer it be in highlighting (since it IS highlighted) but I'd accept this

Why don't you just use a pallet in the first place? You can add a note indicator to the highlight? As far as I understand, these are identical to Logos with the only exception that when you create the note your way you aren't using a pallet and hence, the highlight isn't searchable.

I agree and have written about this till I am blue in the face. [:)]
Do you use Notes at all anymore?
Sure, but not how you are using it. For example, I have a note file for "song suggestions." When I am reading a passage of scripture and I think of worship songs, I create a note. I also have one for exegetical comments, but I don't use the note to highlight passages.
I agree that it would be better if the notes & highlights merged even more.
One more question for you - how do you even create a new highlighter file?
how do you even create a new highlighter file?
I think you are asking the wrong question… but the answer is click "new palette."
In the first screen shot below, you can see the button I am talking about in the upper left corner.
The right question, if I may be so bold, is "how do I organize my notes." There is no "right way," but I have chosen to organize primarily by book. In other words, I create a new resource-named note file every time I want to highlight in a book. By default, the highlight notes go into a "pallet specific note file." You can change this behavior, however, to save all highlights in a note file of your choosing, or to save in the "last used" note file. I have chosen the later.
Thanks for your help with this. One more question. I've set my highlights to go to the latest note file. When a highlight is made, it doesn't put in a little box indicating a note, and I would like it to. I click the box, tell it to use a yellow box, and at the bottom I say set to default, but next highlight doesn't do it. Have you had this problem.
p.s. Sente bibliographic manager in its PDF note-taking has the 4-pronged approach of highlighting the text, putting in a preliminary title that you can change, sticking in the highlighted portion in a "quote" field, and then a comment field. It works great and would love Logos notes to be like this

I do not know how to do this, if you can. When I was researching this for you, I tried the same thing with no luck. Personally, I do not like to have highlights alongside of note indicators… but it does provide a nice way to get to the location in the note file. If I were you, I would keep the note file opened up, scrolled to the bottom. When you add a highlight, you can tell the note to add the note indicator. Just make sure that your note file is set up to sort by when the note was created (so that all new notes are at the bottom).
Thanks very much. This does seem to be a bug, no? (default setting not working I mean)
I don't know… I don't know what that button was supposed to do. I hesitated even pushing it and was kind of glad when nothing happened… I think… I hope… [:)]
Of course, it would have been better if it had worked like we both thought it might. [;)]
