I grew up in Indiana. [....]

Kewl!, Marion County roots here…..I suspected you did, based on u'r accent....Confused

Speaking of Indiana.

The problem (besides the fact that one can't detect accents in email) is that I don't have a Hoosier accent (which varies within the state) since in college I deliberately got rid of it when some students at Calvin said "You're from the South, aren't you?"  Initiate operation accent change.

I hail from Rush County in the Hoosier state. When I moved to Arizona in the late '60's, I learned to speak Spanish (with a Hoosier accent) and then moved to Missouri for undergrad work at a Bible College and there I learned to speak Greek with a Hoosier/Spanish/Missouri accent. Now I'm trying to teach my self Hebrew which will probably have a Hoosier/Spanish/Missouri/Greek/Iowa accent.

Bill, I fell off my chair....hahahahahhaaaa!!!

Sometimes when I am 'hand'writing something to someone in a hurry, I don't catch myself using Gk/Hb characters, Then they come back and ask me 'what is this word?'    I feel a little embarrassed......maybe I should learn 'spanglish' or maybe 'engreek' my son say's 'Hebrish'

***********

I wonder if Randall got things working, haven't heard from him lately/?

There is a way to solve your problems.

I have an HP, and it does not solve any problems. While L4 does function better in a few areas, I still must put up with Windows shortcomings.

Logo Tech support sorry can't help you until it finish indexing. I bet the guy doesn't know why the program is slow.

What lousy tech support index started back @ 0% when I open it. I was told to call back when it gets done indexing. I will fix it myself.

Only question I woke up and index was at 73% and windows rebooted do to a update and then indexing went back to 0%. Is this normal?

Yes.  Personally have Windows Update set to notify me, which allows me to choose when to download and reboot.

Logos 4 is a resource intensive program, whose performance can be adversely affected by other programs (e.g. cloud backup, aggressive anti-malware, ...).

I  have windows set for 3 am but it downloads any time it feels like it. Which makes 3 am kind of useless. I believe 3 am is the default setting.

I may sound like an idiot but, after 2 days you be upset too.

Understand frustration; personally have Logos 4.5a installed on two computers so can use one while the other is indexing.  With computers sitting side by side on a table, have a dual monitor configuration, which can sync using Logos servers.

By the way, learned many years ago, "never let anything mechanical know you are in a hurry"

You don't sound like an idiot... When you spend hundreds to (perhaps) thousands of dollars you expect a certain quality of customer service and software functionality. If you spent $1.50 I'd say you're too upset, but I am guessing that you spent just a little bit more than $1.50 Smile.

Randall,

I am wondering if there might be an issue with the antivirus software or maybe the sync folder function with windows itself. To be honest I have never read of this major of an issue before.

I remember sometime back that there was an issue w/antivirus software but for the life of me I can not remember where the thread is located....and could not find it but it went something along the lines of disabling it until L4 had finished.

If you try to re-do the re-install, after you run through the control panel and remove it, go and get 'CCleaner' off the internet and load and run it a few times w/a reboot, its free and it seems to work pretty good. It will run the regedit and look for hotkey issues that windows sometimes leaves behind.

I am at a loss as to what else could be the issue with your system, other than possible a little slow - no offense.

Logos support has => http://www.logos.com/support/article/webroot due to false positives with Avira and Webroot.

By the way, Logos 4.5b Beta 1 is buggy on Mac; my indexer is consistently crashing for one of two resources (now to figure out which one).

It a business computer. Unfortunately, L4 Mac is rapidly turning into a real dog—and not one as pretty as Halo Hound. Superior OS with an inferior application.

I woke up today and I can tell God is smiling my direction. Logos 4 had finish indexing after a day or so and is up to date 4.5a as far as I know there were no updates to pull today. Also Logos 4  took 23-24 seconds to open and another for homepage which is fast like the day I brought it. (2,546 books)

This is a great deal better then the weeks before I reloaded my laptop. Now if God would give my vet the full biopsy report with a answer to help my dog day would be perfect (No pressure Jesus :P)

Today will be a good day regardless :)

George Somsel:
If anything, I think Accordance has probably lost business to Logos.  Originally Logos was PC only while Accordance handled the MAC.  All of the MAC users of Logos either were or could have been Accordance users (and some may use both programs.).

Well, I still buy some resources on Logos, but I have switched to Accordance as my primary software. I'm not being mean.. Logos 4 is just too slow and buggy.  I waited and waited patiently, defending Logos as they were getting their Mac application off the ground, but after a couple of years I couldn't wait any more. Every release that comes out I have at least one bug that I work around, sometimes more. I've crashed Logos many, many times and I don't bring it up on here any more because I get the usual range of apologetics or ten links to wiki pages that I have already read many times (and in fact I helped write some of the earlier versions of).  I bought a Mac when we had an extremely difficult experience from Microsoft Vista because I wanted trouble free computing. Sadly, I put Logos at times in this category because it simply is not trouble free. In the same token, I finally got Accordance because I wanted trouble free computing.

So Logos is largely just a reference library for me, albeit a good one due to some materials I have accumulated over the last 10 years, but my go to program first thing in the morning for Bible Study is Accordance. I don't recall the last time it crashed. It is very fast, fast, fast.  I love doing textual studies on it. In some ways in my humble opinion the UI of Accordance is superior when it comes to manipulating text. It's efficient, smooth as silk and easy to bring together.  I don't actually have as many resources  particularly when it comes to public domain stuff on Accordance, but everything that I really need is right there so my work flow is optimal.  With time, in terms of materials based on current scholarship, I will most likely accumulate a library on Accordance which will more than hold it's own with my Logos Library.

If a friend asks me which software package to buy, unless they are engaged in formal studies and need access to a large theological library, I refer them to Accordance as most of what they need is there. If someone is engaged in formal studies and needs access to some of the extensive works that we can get on Logos, I usually recommend they get Accordance and then buy a minimal Logos package and then add materials as required to use as a reference library. This is not to say Logos can't be used for Biblical studies. Without doubt they can do Biblical studies on Logos, but under the current conditions, I would posit that they will be inclined to load up Accordance as I do.

So going to what George said, has Accordance lost business to Logos?  I don't know. As near as I can tell, business is good for Logos and Accordance also continues to grow. Regardless, I didn't make my decision to try to hurt Logos or make any other kind of statement. I simply wanted to study the Bible and I needed a sharp tool in my tool box that would help me get stuff done in a trouble free way.
