Hold off on 4.5b beta 1
I discovered Brad's warning after I installed this update without realising it (thought I was installing some newly downloaded commentaries [:)])
Since there are known issues but the release notes aren't available yet, it might be helpful to know the issues I've experienced if you're considering whether to install it:
- On initial run: no home screen, no shortcuts, nothing in layout or file menus, unable to open any resources from command box or library menu.
- After quitting and reopening: fails to connect to logos server, also unable to work offline.
For anyone who's running betas on a machine they need to actually use, I'd suggest holding off this one...
Edit: while I'm thinking about it; would it be possible to modify the update dialogs to make them more explicit? i.e. when new resources have been downloaded indicated what they are; if a new version has been downloaded tell the user what version it is and have a link to the wiki release notes section? In the situation that happened to me this morning - BECNT update had been released, and a new beta had been rolled out that I hadn't heard about, it's not clear to me how I could have installed the one and not the other even if I'd known what it was...

Program update has a dialog box to Install and Relaunch (OR Cancel), which resource update does not.
Initially discovered Logos 4.5b Beta 1 on Mac from an automatic download, which was not preceded by release notes that harkens back to some Alpha pre-releases, which were followed a day or two later by release notes.

All "Cancel" does is wait until restart to replace the executable.
We need a way to avoid this kind of nightmare. I too was up taking what I thought was BECNT upgrade only to be greeted by the great nothing.

Logos, I try not to complain much, but this is ridiculous. Why, oh why, didn't you pull this Beta before more and more people downloaded it? It didn't download to my machine until this morning. Logos won't sync with the servers now, and my highlights have disappeared.

That is an excellent question. I also did not download until this morning. Then, it was too late to avoid disaster.

This is correct. Once the upgrade downloads, you are doomed. This is inexcusable on Logos' part.
UPDATE: Just downloaded the beta from Logos website, and the faulty app is still there.

Did Logos "pull" the Beta as in it is no longer available?

not as of this morning, when I started Logos at the office and it downloaded
wish they had, though, because I would still have a fully-functioning Logos, instead of this Beta!

Logos, pull the beta! This beta does not start on my machine and tell us how to recover!

I've never done this before, but I've updated the official release notes with a "WARNING" in the Mac Known Issues section telling people to avoid installation.

Hope you don't mind a Windows user butting in.
Adding a note to the Wiki seems like a wise thing to do. If it's any consolation, us Windows users once had a beta that was completely unusable (it crashed within seconds of opening). It was fixed over the weekend I seem to remember, but made Sunday's preparation a little fraught (I had to remotely access my office computer which still had the old version installed!).
I've further updated the Wiki page to include a link back to this thread, and made it clearer that the recommendation not to upgrade comes from users, not from Logos.

It would be really nice if there were some word from Logos, before I decide to go through the lengthy and (very) bothersome process of uninstalling the software so that I can reinstall using the latest stable version.
I just remember yesterday thinking how nice it is that all my markups on now on my iPad, now I have them on my iPad, but not on my Mac. [:(]

Yes, see thread => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/46263/344195.aspx#344195 and verified Mac Beta RSS feed no longer has 4.5b Beta 1.
