The basic search is not working in either my iphone or ipad. Anyone else having a problem?
I can verify this. I guess there is a problem at headquarters.
I've just tried a basic search on my iPad and it works fine.

Any kind of search from any resource. I just says "No results matched your search". For what its worth, I live in USA.
Strange!
I live in the UK so it sounds like it could be a geographical issue.
Presumably a basic search still works if you put the iPad into Airplane mode?
