BUG: L4 Mac 4.6 Beta 5—Spinning beachball

For the first hour, I thought this long-standing problem had finally be fixed, but it is still present. Change a panel—especially with commentaries—and the ball starts spinning and spinning and spinning.
Reported this a couple of betas ago. Martin Potter asked a question about the situation. After I answered, I never heard another word from Logos.

Why does Logos not respond? Does Mac performance not matter?

I apologize for the delay in response. I've created a case for this issue. I tried to find the thread you referenced. Is this it? http://community.logos.com/forums/t/52298.aspx
I haven't been able to reproduce any hangs moving between commentaries, but I could be missing some steps. Do you see the issue using the Right/Left arrow keys to navigate through parallel resources? Or are you using the drop down menu?

Yes, it is.

Unfortunately, the issue is not isolated to commentaries. It can occur with any resource. Since I use the mouse more than the arrow keys, it most often with a mouse click. Just now, I had this set up in a floating window with several commentaries open in the lower right panel. As I clicked to close the commentaries, the ball started spinning. It took around 15 seconds to close each commentary. Upon quitting L4, the floating window took 30+ seconds to close.

At other times the spinning ball occurs when attempting to switch panes in the main window. Attempting to copy text in the open Greek New Testaments is a frustrating experience.
This is not an isolated incident, as many others have complained about the slow operation of L4 Mac and about the spinning ball. The speed issues seem to become worse with each beta release.
Note that this is not an underpowered machine.
Logos resides on a 7200 rpm 2TB drive with more than 1.75TB free space. I have also ran both Tech Tools and MacKeeper on the main drive with no problems detected.

Thank you. I'll add the additional details you've provided, along with your new logs to the case. I still wasn't able to reproduce the issue, but hopefully Development can find something helpful in the logs.

Thank you. Let me know if you think any further information would be useful.

Jack, could you sample the process when the hang occurs and post the results here, please?

I am putty in the hands of a beautiful woman [8-|]. Here is your sample

In the setup pictured above of the four-panel floating window, I was closing the commentary in the lower right corner—Baker NTC on Romans Vol 1, I believe.
BTW: Had just reopened L4 after upgrading to 4.6 RC-1. L4 had only been open for a minute or so.

Hi Jack
A relevant question you might ask (of those unable to reproduce the problem) is if they have a 10.6.8 machine to test it on.
Did I hear rumours of a move to 10.7 ?

I have purchased it, just have not installed it yet. It will disable a few applications that i don't use enough to justifying upgrading—the company database engine, I could keep 10.6.8 on an unused disk in my desktop to solve that problem. Just need a push to overcome the lethargy [:D]

Thank you sir! I will attach it to the case.

Yes. And I did. [:)]

I see this thread has not been updated since 4.6 shipped.
Workaround: clear History regularly.
Threads in the normal Mac forum:
- 4.6 SR-1: Performance way below unbearable -- beach ball after EVERY click or keystroke
- SR2 is seriously S---L---O---W with OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
- Spinning Wheel w/Every Click
- (there may well be more that I don't remember right now)
I find it very disappointing that a bug that essentially renders Logos unusable, and that was reported in July, nevertheless gets shipped to 'stable' in September, and is still there more than a month later (though why we still go on calling it 'stable' is beyond me).
I find it at least equally disappointing that threads with titles like these are left unattended for week after week. If Logos had even one grain of respect for their customers they wouldn't be left unanswered for even one hour. The Mac forum is pretty much dead. KS4J is working and Logos is gone. It's essentially me, Jack and occasionally Alabama, and none of us are techies. Except for the simplest issues, there is no help to be had, unless you manage to catch KS4J's eye the few hours he's on, which can take many days and bumps, and even then it can take many days more, one or two posts a day, to find a workaround. And if you manage to get a case filed for your bug report in less than a month, you're lucky.
