Richard Lyall:

I can't open any resources without a crash.

Richard, did you upgrade or did you try to install under a new user?

I installed over the top - if there were any installation instructions I didn't read them - I just steamed ahead.

Should I have done something differently?

Most of the people who have had problems, including me originally, had them when trying to install on a different user account.

My upgrade worked perfectly, so I'm a bit stumped.

I had the same problem, crash after opening any resource, after doing a install over my existing L4. I also had the problem after uninstalling the l4 beta, deleting all the files, and re-installing the beta.

Finally got around to installing it, and it works fine.

Philip ... have you got it working subsequently? If so, what did you do?

Ah, "Stuck" on SR7 just like me eh?

I've got a bunch of out of office time slated today, and a sermon to build a skeleton for  - but if I manage to get it done I may make another attempt at installing in a separate account.  As for right now I intend to keep my Sr7 install nice and safe.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

My beta install is still working fine. After reading about everyone's trouble, I decided not to reinstall a new copy and kept the one I talked about in earlier posts.

The process that worked for me was:

  1. Created second user account (using XP if that is relevant)
  2. downloaded and installed beta setup file
  3. stopped resource download
  4. replaced all directories in c:/beta account/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos4/Data/random.num/ with content from previous L4 install (some of these directories are DownloadManager, ResourceManager, etc.)
  5. started L4 - it did not download or index - everything was good - peachy even
  6. when I realized that I was missing my collections, I replaced the directory c:/beta account/Local Settings/Application Data/Logos4/Documents/random.num/ResourceCollectionManager with the directory from the old install - my collections automagically reappeared

I'm not sure if I should have copied the whole Documents folder from the previous install or not. I haven't noticed anything obviously wrong with my beta install. It seems a bit more responsive. The Cited By and Datasheet are significant improvements.

Dittos to everything you just said - more responsive and it has yet to crash on me despite a few days test driving it.  I too enjoy the improvements.  Thanks again, Logos!

Just a quick question, is there a way for me to install the beta version on to a seperated folder on the same machine which already have logos 4 without creating a new user profile?

Sorry Steven, no that is not an option.

You'll have to create a new account at least.

Thanks for that, Mike. I bookmarked your post.

Very creative application of available tools.

You have increased my anticipation for the implementation of the Sermon Addin in the Q2.
