Okay there must be an easy fix to this one but I can't figure it out. My ESV table of contents keeps re-appearing each day and each day I close all of them and save the current layout but the next day it comes back. Suggestions?

Peace, Bruce!                  *smile*

You may have the information bar and/or the table of contents turned on       ????????????????

No Milford, I turn it off each time that it comes back.

Hi Bruce

Can you provide a bit more information please?

  • are you running on Windows or Mac?
  • how are you opening your ESV? From the command bar, in a reading plan, from within a layout, something else?
  • do you get the same behaviour if you open other Bibles?
  • when did this start happening?

Thanks, Graham

  1. I am running Windows 7
  2. I have a layout saved for reading the Bible through in a year chronologically so there are several copies of the ESV open at the same time as well as the NA 28. I also have several other Bibles links so that I can change versions at any time. Lately when I open the ESV the TOC is open (taking up too much room for my layout) so I open each copy and uncheck TOC. At the end of each session I make sure all the settings are correct and then choose "update to current snapshot" so that it is ready to read the next day. Through the day I often go to other layouts but the next day when I open up my Chronological Bible Reading Layout the TOC is open for each ESV again.
  3. I am not having this problem with any other books at this time.
  4. Only the last while have I had problems when I open it. I'm not sure of the exact date but it began approximately a few weeks ago.

So it looks like it is layout related. To confirm this can you close everything down and then just open a copy of the ESV from the command bar? Does this open with the ToC closed or open?

The reported issue at http://community.logos.com/forums/t/54592.aspx  seems somewhat similar.

Can you post a screenshot of your layout?

Thanks, Graham

I followed the other thread suggestion. I closed Logos and waited a long time then restarted. The same problem came up again. I am thinking that this is a bug in the program. Is there an official way to report this or does Logos just  monitor these threads?

H Bruce,

A few others and myself do (my time is split between here and the phones). However, calling us is always a good idea if you can manage.

So do I need to call about this or have you already passed on this information?

I've been having the same issue since Logos 4, but was too lazy to say anything. I've a number of layouts with ESV on top, and each day I close the table of contents, and the next day, it's open again when I restart the computer to the same layout. It doesn't happen with just ESV alone on a layout, and I've tried to determine the minimum number of resources open to cause this to happen, but I was also too lazy to figure this out. It's not one, or two, or three, or four, or five... It's also not 100% reproducible...  It's not happening today...  :)

Mine seems to happen every day.

OK, so it's still happening.  Opened my saved Luke layout, closed Logos, and restarted it, and the ESV opened up again.  The other layout I was using was a bit simpler.

We'll want/need to troubleshoot the issue and get more information from you about the issue. If you want to call that would be great. It is always easier to troubleshoot and get information on the phone, otherwise, (regarding your initial post) does the behavior have to wait a whole day to reproduce, or can you close the ToC (Table of Contents) close Logos 5 and when you re-open it the ToC comes back?

It happens every time. Perhaps I will try calling. Who do I ask for? How should this normally be done?

I thought that I would write a followup regarding the problem that I have been encountering. I called Steve on tech support and we worked our way through it. (Thanks Steve!) Let me try to explain what happened with me and how to fix it.

What happened to me is this. I opened the ESV table of contents in one layout and saved that layout.  Then I went to another layout that had multiple ESV Bibles opened. I noticed that each one had the table of contents open.I closed each one and saved that layout but it kept coming back. The problem was that I thought I had closed each one but I missed one that was under a Greek Bible. Even though I saved this layout it was not enough to change the default for the ESV.

We fixed the problem by going to the command bar and typing "close all". Then I opened an ESV which actually opened with the table of contents open. Then I closed the table of contents on it. Then I opened my Bible Reading Layout and this time all the table of contents were closed.

The principle is this. The ESV is set up to remember the last time the resource was used in any layout. It should open to setting the next time it is opened regardless of the layout.

I hope this may help others who have experienced the same thing.
