Better way to search Logos forums

Yesterday I was speaking with a Logos level 2 technician and he gave me a great piece of advice. I told him that I was searching the forums for a topic using the Logos forum search bar. He suggested that it is far more accurate and faster to search the Logos forums using a Google search. Here is how you do it.
Type the following in a Google search box -
- site:community.logos.com
- then hit the spacebar once
- then type the topic you wish to search
- enjoy the fast and accurate results
E.g. site:community.logos.com archaeology
Of course this trick can also be used to search any website for information.
Wow, I was so impressed with this and thought maybe it may help some of you. I don't think I'll be using the Logos forum search box in the future.

Thanks, Bruce! No need for Logos engineers to reinvent a perfectly good wheel. I'm surprised they did not piggyback their search onto Google in the first place. (Copyright issues?)

I am also surprised that they didn't use Google for the forums but maybe there is some reason that we don't understand. The challenge is for most people who didn't even know that this was a possibility.
Does anyone else reading this thread use this way of searching?

I do too. It's great. But because I'm lazy I just start typing the search box of the forums first. When I don't find what I'm looking for, I use the Google method to get the results I need.Bruce Dunning said:Does anyone else reading this thread use this way of searching?

Hi Bruce
Many people use Google to search the forums - there are a range of posts about it.
Its worth noting that the forums software is based on bought-in technology so it's native functionality is dependent on what that provides.

Dear Northern Neighbour of mine! Thanks, Bruce! Indeed! Actually, we've been doing that for several years; and I'm so glad to see it posted again! It's been one of the wonderful tips and tricks that many of us take for granted! .... and that newer folks on the forums may not yet have encountered.
So it has been indeed necessary for you -- with all your fervour and enthusiasm -- to remind us again of the blessings we have, eh???
My oldest son has a lovely cottage on the North East corner of Pigeon Lake, near Buckhorn, where I like to catch the odd black crappie or blue gill or pumpkin seed! *smile* Most of the local residents go for the Walleyes and the Northern Pike and the like; but I like the simple and the relaxing ... *smile*

Another Google search trick, which will replicate the one remaining feature that the forum search form provides: you can restrict your search to a particular forum by including within quotes the name of that forum (and if necessary enough of the context from the navigation "breadcrumbs" at the top of the page to weed out common words like General), for example "Home > General" will restrict to posts in the General forum. And you can find initial posts by a given person (e.g., yourself) by including your name with the string of text that comes on the top of the first post in a thread, e.g., "Bruce Denning | Forum Activity | Posted" or if you want to see initial posts and replies, just include your name in quotes.

Milford, if you are ever in the area I'd love to meet you and show you around a bit.

Thanks for the tip Rosie. I didn't know that either.
