Problems with several docx. in the Personal Book Builder (Logos 5). I tried closing everything, deleting the file and readding it to the PBB but to no avail. This is the error log;

It would help if you uploaded the document using the paper clip icon and indicated if this, or other docs had previously compiled OK.  What version of Logos?

Mark,

welcome (in this thread) to the Logos user forum!

Dave is right, a copy of the *.docx file would help. If you converted the PDFs from here http://www.charleswelch.net/aa.htm , it would help if you could detail how you did this. Word's docx format in reality is an XML format, and sometimes conversions leave artifacts in the XML that disturb the Logos PB compiler.

One way to "sanitize" the file is to save them in the old Word *.rtf-format, then open it in Word and use file save as *.docx. You may want to try this.

Dave,

Here is the complete error message. I have uploaded the document in question. The Logos version is 5. I have tried converting the pdf from Adobe as well as a program Solid Documents PDF to Word converter. Everything looks acceptable as a docx file. I have converted other pdfs to Word and loaded them without an error.

Mick,

I did convert the pdfs from the referenced website. I tried it two ways, 1) Adobe Acrobat 11 and 2) Solid Documents PDF to Word converter program. They look fine as a docx but I get the build failure when I try to import them into Logos 5. I have other pdfs that I have converted and imported to Logos without incident. I don't understand why it only gives me an error on some of these documents. I'll attach the Word document. The error message is as below. I'll try the rtf-format idea. Thanks for your help.

Mark,

fwiw, the PB compiler in the Logos 5 latest beta did process the file you posted without errors and just gave some 400 warnings due to empty paragraphs and such.

But the tool-based conversio from PDFs didn't really work well for headings:

(forum software has a bug currently - if you can't see the screenshot picture above, double click to open it)

If I was you, I'd look at the converted files in Word's outline view to make sure the headings are as they should be. Maybe this will solve the PB error issue as well, otherwise the RTF thing should help.

Going from .rtf to .docx does not solve my problem.  Logos 5 still in unable to build the book.  I've tried this with several documents I was having problems with and it does the same thing. Is Logos going to release an update or new PBB version that might help with some of these issues? I'm sure I'm not alone. Thanks!

It sounds like Mick was successful in compiling your file… If so, you could try updating to the beta version… (normal warnings apply).

Mark, as I said, the current Beta (which will release as Logos 5.1 sometime rather soon) builds your book very well, so, yes to Logos is going to update the PB feature. . However, PB is not broken in the current version and will build all sorts of docx files very nicely, as you can see in the Files forum. So maybe if you upload a file (potentially one that you put through RTF sanitizing before and still can't build) others may drop by who have a stable version installed and can help you find out what the issue is.  . EDIT: or, as Alabama suggested, you may consider switching to beta yourself

Mick,

Thanks for the info. I didn't mean to imply that the current PBB is broken. I have successfully used it to build other books. It is just frustrating when you just have a couple that you need and yet you can't figure out why it won't work. I'll take your advice. Thanks again.

I'll tell you only if you promise to stop asking the same question to several people in different posts… Stick out tongue

There are a couple of ways to get the beta. First you can download it directly. Another option is to change your update channel. You can do this by using the command set update channel to beta. I would recommend, however, that you take a look at the following thread first. Beta software is an advanced release version of the software. There WILL be bugs… that is kind of the point of beta testing… to help find bugs. If you choose to use beta, you give up the ability to call Logos if something goes wrong… I do mean to scare you, but only a little. You can still get help, but you must do so through the forums only. There is a special forum for beta testing. If you switch your update channel, you should make sure you switch it back to stable when the version goes live. Failure to do so will result in 1) no service release updates being downloaded and 2) you may end up getting an unexpected beta download in the future. I personally do beta test, but I choose when to join based upon feedback from other users.
