"Logos Bible Software 4 has stopped working"
It is my understanding that I need to include the log files, and so I have. Is there something that I'm missing? Please help. I haven't been able to open Logos in several months. I don't even know when or why it stopped working. It's really frustrating...

This appears to be some kind of error in the Home Page, which we'll investigate.
Please hold down the CTRL key when you start Logos 4. A startup dialog should appear; check the "Use blank layout" checkbox, then click the Sign In button. The application should open to an empty screen (without a crash).

I'm assuming you're new to Logos, even though you are using version 4, not the latest version (5). Is that right?
If you're not new to Logos you could begin by opening one of your saved layouts. In fact, even if you didn't save a layout, the last place you were when you closed Logos should be saved. You could start there, and enter a new passage in all the passage boxes where you want to study your new passage.
If you are new to Logos, or don't want to bother with a previous layout, let me suggest one of the guides. On the top, to the right of the three large icons on the left, you should see "Documents" "Guides" and "Tools." Click "Guides" and select a guide name that seems to suit your purpose. If you were to enter a passage from the home page the Passage Guide would be one of the things that would open up.
You can open your Bible to the passage you want to study by typing open ESV to John 3:16 (or some other version/passage) in the Logos command bar (to the left of the menu items I mentioned above.
I believe the home page also opens up the "Information" tool (from the "Tools" menu).
I'm not sure I remember what else the home page opens up (I don't use it).
Arranging the tabs (or window panes) can be trickier, but this should get you started and working again. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Okay, I am actually able to do something on Logos without having it shut down in two seconds, but I am still not able to go to my home page. I suppose I can do what I need to do without going to my home page at all, but that means that I'll always have to hold down the Ctrl key when I start Logos and I'll always have to open a blank layout first before I can search for anything. That will just bug me because I used to be able just to click and open Logos and go to the home page. Why doesn't the home page work now? How can I fix it?

This will require Bradley, or some other tech, to fix. He said above he would look into it. But remember, this is the weekend and many Logos tech's are at home with their families and worshiping with their churches. Knowing Bradley, if he said he'll look into it, he will.
As to what's causing the problem or how to fix it, I'm not sure. I'm not a tech, just a user like you. My suggestions are just to help you limp along until a solution can be found to your issue. And I trust one will be found soon.

Noticed Logos4.log file has a network error accessing the Logos Software Blog.
Wonder if can display Blog feed in a web browser ?
http://feeds.feedburner.com/LogosBibleSoftwareBlog
Workaround idea: launch Logos 4 to work offline, open Home Page, then customize Home Page content to not show Logos Blog (uncheck).

Purchasing Logos 5 will eliminate the Logos 4 problem, but then you'll need the yet unreleased Logos 6 to fix the problems in Logos 5. Start saving up for that now, because before you know it Logos 7 will be coming to fix the problems in Logos 6.
These upcoming version "upgrades" will always be completely free, except for the part where you pay Logos again.
The best methods of getting completely rid of this problem forever are to either just uninstall Logos and forget that you ever bought it or give your Logos license away to a pastor of a different denomination that you don't have a theological agreement with so as to shove a stick into their spokes. Friends don't let friends use Logos.
Google for Accordance and BibleWorks and just get off the insanity carousel.

Now 777 I don't think you're being fair.
The key is simply deciding 'when' to climb off the carousel. I stepped off at L3, locked in with IE6 in a virtual box, and no headaches since.
Confession: I did buy the L5 crossgrade, and now own a crashing L5 with a non-working sense lexicon. Lesson: one needs to remain OFF the carousel.

I'm not sure this will fix the crash it as it appears to be a separate problem, but the Indexer log shows you cannot download updates. Try this from your Windows Administrator account:-
- Click the Windows "Start" button
- Type "services" in the Search bar and then click on the "Services" program at the top
- In the list of services, double-click "Background Intelligent Transfer Service"
- In the "Startup Type" list, select "Manual" and click "Apply"
- Check whether the "Service status" is "Started"; if it is "Stopped" click on the "Start" button.
Start a Command Prompt (type "cmd" and select "cmd.exe" as per "services" above), type bitsadmin /reset and hit the Enter key.
Start L4 with CTRL key held down. It should begin to download updates.

Hopefully my work here evangelizing the benefits of side-stepping Logos will be of help to those that have never gotten on the Logos insanity carousel. For those souls that are now in bondage to Logos, reminding them that IT'S OK to jettison Logos off the side of your boat to calm the seas of your existence may help a few more. There is better software for Bible study that works well and actually helps you study. This other software is well engineered and actually works, at least to a so much larger degree than Logos does that it's something that causes you to pause and take inventory on which Bible software the Lord is actually blessing the authors of.
If God was blessing Logos, then the forums would not be overflowing with problem reports. Think about it. New versions of Logos are thinly disguised "upgrades" that have a single purpose, and that purpose is not to improve Logos, but to generate funds. Logos needs funds to hire more help to bang on the perpetual bug parade that the unwitting "lab rat" and "test chimp" users of Logos report problems with, which then requires more funds to hire more help.
For those of you that have the company of the Holy Spirit and the extreme peace that accompanies His presence, dealing with Logos is quite the opposite, with aggravation and stress being the order of the day.
There are a lot of people in the forums here that are "fan boys" of Logos (pardon me, ladies). Some have thousands of posts. They jump in when someone has a problem to help put out the fire. How can someone with thousands of posts actually be using the software? They are not Logos users, they are Logos FORUM users. In actuality, most of them say that they do not experience issues with Logos, but I suppose that you can only experience those issues if you actually use (or attempt to between crashes) the software.
If you purchase Logos, then you may get more than your bargained for. It just might not all be butterflies, rainbows, and unicorns.

Apologies: personally have not seen an alternative to visual filter highlighting in Logos 4 and Logos 5 that combines hundreds of search results so can "see" range of Greek verbal intensity in English and Greek:
Caveat: combining hundreds of searches is resource intensive, which takes awhile. Personally using Logos resources to learn Hebrew, with a goal of creating Logos Hebrew Morphology visual filters for use in Logos 5.

It's good to see that you got a screen capture of Logos running between crashes. You must be nimble at the keyboard. The person that started this thread can't get the software to run at all. With over 10,000 posts here, I'm surprised that you even knew what icon on your desktop to click to get Logos to open. I know you know what icon to click to get your browser to open, so you can live your virtual existence here on this forum.

From posted diagnostic log files, crash is happening while trying to retrieve Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feed about Logos Blog articles, which would be formatted for display on Logos Home Page. From earlier reply => http://community.logos.com/forums/p/63937/449198.aspx#449198 in this thread, wondering about network connectivity ?
Logos 4 and Logos 5 are designed for use with stable network connections, which works well in various parts of the world, but not others.
Thankful for option to use Logos 4 and Logos 5 offline; resources are locally copied and indexed.
Work around for Home Page crash is work offline so can customize content to avoid internet items. Home Page content for Devotionals, Excepts, Release Notes, and Updated Resources are local while other items use a variety of RSS feeds.
Anticipating Logos development will investigate Home Page crashing since fixing crash issues is a high priority.

+1 [Y] since have experienced a baker's dozen of crashes of "Too Many Open Files" in past couple weeks while using Logos 5.0b Beta 1 on OS X 10.8.2 so have been adjusting OS X system resource limits followed by restarting Mac. Increasing max files and processes is helping so can keep Logos 5.0b Beta 1 open longer and use more. Logos 5 has improvements for asynchronous Input/Output (I/O) processing. The .NET Framework 4.5 on Windows and corresponding open source mono can handle more asynchronous I/O so Logos 5 is more responsive, especially when using a newer Solid State Disk (SSD).
Thankful for Logos licensing that allows Logos to be installed on many personal devices so have option to switch devices when one crashes. Also can use devices side by side for a multiple monitor effect.

Apologies: not know how number of times have launched various releases of LLS 2, Libronix 3, Logos for Mac v1, Logos 4, and Logos 5 on various computers and virtual machines, which exceeds 70 times 7. Also not know many times have downloaded and looked at diagnostic log files, often replying to Logos Bible Software forum threads, followed by deleting those files.

Dear 777,
Your bitterness is not assisting my situation.
Please discontinue your replies to my post, and pray to the God of mercies for a release of your embitterment.

I had the same message which kept coming up. I did a bit of research and someone suggested running:
http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe
I did this and it worked perfectly!
I think it repaired some corrupted file.
Happy Days!

I tried to do what you said, but I only got as far as double-clicking on "Background Intelligent Transfer Service." I couldn't change anything in the drop down menu for the "Startup Type." However, my homepage seems to be working now. I started Logos this morning, and it went directly to my last search layout (because I had unclicked "Show homepage at startup" in the Customize menu on the homepage). Then, I was curious what would happen and I clicked the homepage icon in the top left corner of my Logos window. It had to "think" for a while with a blank homepage, and that's when I clicked on the Customize menu again and noticed that I could then unclick Logos Blog. So, I unclicked it, and the homepage popped up soon there after. Just for kicks, I tried re-clicking the "Show homepage at startup," and restarted Logos and it came to the homepage fine. So, out of all this, I'm going to assume that something is wrong with the Logos Blog and my computer. : )

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is "4.6a SR-6"? Is it something that I need to update? How? Since my homepage is working now, should I just assume that Logos will update automatically for me now? Or should I do a manual update somewhere?

In addition to what Tom said you can control when updates are applied as outlined at http://wiki.logos.com/Program_Settings#Automatically_Download_Updates

You may not be able to receive the Logos update until this is fixed.
You have to be logged into an Administrator account to make changes to the Service. Alternatively, at the second step I gave you, right click the Services program and then click "Run as Administrator". Do the same for cmd.exe.

Okay, I didn't have to change anything because it was already set to "yes" for the "use internet" setting. So, I should be good!

Okay, I ran both programs as administrator. The command "bitsadmin/reset" action resulted in 0 of 578 jobs cancelled. I can't view them all, but the ones that I can see say they are "unable to cancel." I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I hope you know because I did what you said. Now, should I reset the "services" setting back to Automatic instead of Manual?

Try bitsadmin /reset /allusers
If this doesn;t work you can update Logos using the link http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe

Hey thanks a million! I kept getting the same message that it has stopped working. I clicked on the link, ran the Logos4Setup.exe and it opened just as it did before the problem. You saved me much seeking, searching and customer service time! Bless you!
