Garbbled Text in QSM
I'm very happy to see that with Logos 5 morph search is playing nice with the QSM database--one can type a lemma into morph search and get proper results. Thanks, Vincent et al.
Problem:
I am getting garbbled text in countless places in the resource. I thought I had seen something about this in the forums (with a solution), but I can't find anything now.

Brien, you're looking at just how awesome Logos really is!! Those garbled letters come directly out of cave 4 (some from cave 11). I think it's a new feature of Logos5; didn't see it previously and I tried various fonts. Now I'm wondering too.

OK. It appears to be a font issue. The Default font for Logos 5 doesn't seem to support some of these characters. If you change the default font to Times New Roman, the characters aren't necessarily garbbled.
BUT there do seem to be too many brackets. Here is the text in Logos 5 with Times New Roman as the default font:
Here is the same text in the Dead Sea Scrolls Electronic Library (Brill, 2006). (This is NOT an issue where the two resources are merely using different symbols in their transcriptions)
There should be no double brackets

Furthermore, in countless places Logos' QSM has final forms where, according to the transcription, there should be no final forms. This occurs where a part of a word is in brackets. That is, where some of a words letters are conjectured.
For example, in the image below, the מ is a מִן prefix attached to המה, which is on the other side of the bracket. The מ should not be a final form. Same thing with the כ in תוך. There is a conjectured 3ms pronominal suffix on the other side of the bracket so the kaf should be a medial form.

See also this thread, where there are similar issues with the biblical Dead Sea Scrolls.

Brian .. on another thread Bradley said they were busy on preparing for the beta but would look at 'bugs' later this week. If you wanted to give it some more visibility you might create another thread with 'BUG: Garbled Text in QSM' or similar and then ref your two threads. If you want; too late to edit the present thread.
Also they're hiring a tester, so obviously they're trying to respond better.
Appreciate you bird-dogging QSM; users will benefit for many years.

Thanks. I hope Logos gets the QSM straight. It has been out for years and has always had problems.
Started a new thread.

Thread => BUG: L5 Font Display in Biblical DSS has a reference to this thread.
Using Logos 5.1 Beta 2 on Windows 7 noticed bracket reversal pattern on most lines:
In contrast, visual filter that adds Hebrew consistently has letter direction reversal on Windows 7.

Yes, we who do a good deal of work with the Hebrew text have always had problems. The different directionality of the language presents a problem. I've had similar problems myself. I was copying some Dead Sea Scrolls material some years ago and ran into a problem with Office 2000's Word which simply would not get the order straight—it looked correct when you typed it in but after it was saved it reminded me of the Wizard of Oz (a horse of a different color [unless you're a Brit and don't know how to spell—then it's "colour" [;)] ]).

This will be fixed in 5.1 Beta 5; thanks for reporting it.

This will also be fixed in 5.1 Beta 5 (for both the Default Font and Times New Roman).
