Read Aloud Switching Speaker Voice?
Does anyone know of a solution to get the Read Aloud voice to stop switching to another voice? I used to use Read Aloud in Logos 4 quite a bit and did not encounter this issue until after the upgrade. Does anyone know if there is something I need to do?
If you're wondering what I'm talking about, try listening to these (if you have these resources):
About the third paragraph in, this one switches on me: logosres:lange64jn;ref=Page.p_267;off=2753
Voice switches about 4 paragraphs in after a verse reference: logosres:gs-bsac-143;ref=VolumeNumberPage.V_143,_N_570,_p_156;off=354
Thanks!
Chris

I checked the reference to Langes and the voice did not switch to another voice. Do you have more than one voice option available to you in the windows system?

Thanks all for your questions and input.
I am on a Mac right now. I do have a Windows computer, but I have not upgraded Logos to version 5 on that system just yet.
Text to speech voice setting is: Tom
speed: Normal
Thanks!

I tested to see if switching voices would help and the same problem. It switches to what almost sounds like a foreign speaker. In fact, it sounds Greek, when it gets to numbers, they are definitely being spoken in modern Greek.
I do have a Greek keyboard installed in my Mac OS.
OS 10.8.3 latest version with updates
Thanks!

I wondered the same thing too, but in the Lange reference noted in original post, it switches during a verse reference and not on Greek words. It doesn't appear to be associated with a language switch that I can tell.
Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion, in my previous post, I stated that it was Lange, but it was the second resource where the Chapter numbers are being read that it switches.
Here is a more detailed breakout of the exact time it switches:
In the Lange article:
"...So also Lachmann, Tischendorf, Tregelles, Alford, Wescott and Hort. <SWITCH>
The prevailing critical evidence, though mostly negative (especially from the Eastern Church), is against the passage, the moral evidence for it; in other words, it seems to be no original part of John’s written Gospel..."
In the Bibliotheca Sacra article:
"The Context: Counsel concerning Christian Liberty (Chaps. 8-14) <SWITCH>
Paul’s directives about the state of women in the church (11:2–16) and the state of Christians at the Lord’s Supper..."
Hope that helps.
Thanks!

This issue is probably beyond the scope of the forums to solve… then again, KS4J seems to always surprise me. [:)] I don't know if logs would help or not. If you haven't posted logs before, you can find instructions in the links in my signature line.

Log file version created and attached to this post.
Replication confirmed and tested with the Lange commentary included in Logos 5 using the link provided earlier in this thread.
NOTE: I changed the .zip file name of the log archive to my screen name as my full name is provided in it and I did not want to provide to public access.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: I noticed that if I started one paragraph earlier to Read Aloud before the break (see above for the Lange resource which was opened for this test), the voice did not switch. If I scrolled back a bit earlier by one more paragraph, it switched in the same place noted above.

If I recall correctly, the read aloud functionality was changed slightly on the Mac for 5.0. The change was to switch to use a Greek voice (Alexandros is provided by Apple) when Greek text is displayed. English voices would not read Greek text aloud, so switching to a locale-appropriate voice enabled read aloud for Greek text. It appears that the automatic switch between voices may be getting confused.
I have made a case for this issue.

It did not do so for me… it skipped over the greek entirely. I am running beta. If you think I should create a thread and post logs, let me know.

@alamaba24, do you have a Greek voice installed? It should be in the "Text to Speech" pane of the Speech System Preference. "Alexandros" is the Apple-provided voice and may not be installed in default installations.

Grayson,
Thanks for the note about Greek voices. I do have Alexandros and Melina voices. I selected Alexandros to hear the voice played back and can confirm that is the voice which I am hearing in when it switches. FYI: If it helps any, his playback speed is set to slower than normal.
Thanks again,
Chris

Alabama24,
Thanks for noting that... if it helps, I ran a test moving Alexndros' voice at normal setting and using the Alex voice as the speaking voice and it still switched to Alexandros' voice at the same location as before.

The issue of Read Aloud incorrectly switching the speaker voice will be fixed in 5.1 Beta 7 for beta users, and in general when 5.1 ships to the stable channel.
Due to this fix, the Greek words in English resources will be skipped since the English voices provided by Apple cannot read the Greek appropriately. On Windows, the Greek text is not skipped. I have reported this issue to Development.

Thank you for clarification and confirmation. I look forward to the fix.

After installing the 5.1 update today on Mac (5.1.0.0943), this is confirmed fixed on the same system that was having problems and the provided resource links were confirmed working properly with no switching. Thanks for the fix!
Blessings,
Chris
