Is it possible to open... say... a chapter in my NIV Bible

... without the associated notes and highlights for a particular chapter showing up? And without having to delete all the notes, obviously.

You know you can turn off notes and highlights from the visual filter menu, I presume, although of course that doesn't turn them off just for one chapter.

What Mark said is what I would do. But if you want a completely clean text without having to uncheck a bunch of note files, you can also use the Text Comparison window, set it to only show 1 version (e.g. NIV), and type in a chapter reference:
