I'm on L5 Platinum, and it's showing I can upgrade to Diamond or Portfolio as before on the upgrade page, but it's also saying I can now upgrade to L5 "Original Languages", which is below Platinum on the list.

I'm sure this is good news for those that miss OL, but why would I want to "upgrade" to Logos 5 OL when I have L5 Platinum? Is that a tech glitch?

Thanks!

Nathan Parker

In the past, there was never a smooth upgrade path that included OL as a step along the way, because it didn't sit squarely between two other packages, being a superset of one and a subest of the next (as is the case with all the other packages). It had some resources in it that "higher" level packages didn't. So maybe Logos is offering to let you "upgrade" to it because it includes some resources that you don't have?

Incidentally, I am not able to find the OL package on the Logos website. Where are you seeing this offer to upgrade? On Logos.com or in your home page in Logos 5?

He might mean http://www.logos.com/product/27551/biblical-languages  if he is on the academic program.

Oh yes, that's probably it. I was searching for "Original Languages" and came up short.

why would I want to "upgrade" to Logos 5 BL when I have L5 Platinum? Is that a tech glitch?

You'd be adding Biblical Languages to Platinum. There are probably some resources in BL that are not in Platinum. If the recent spreadsheet that was put together is accurate, then they are:

  • New International Version
  • The NET Bible
  • NLT English-Greek Reverse Interlinear
  • Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
  • Logos Bible Software Maps
  • Records of the Life of Jesus
  • The New Testament In Greek (Westcott and Hort)
  • Cascadia Syntax Graphs of the New Testament
  • Clausal Outlines of the Greek New Testament: SBL Edition
  • Kairos: A Beginning Greek Grammar and Workbook

You also get LSJ and bunch of original language works like reference grammars. My upgrade price was cheaper than LSJ alone, and I received a lot of other great reference works.

I think it is called Biblical Languages now. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks for the info! I'll chat with my Logos sales rep about it. The price seemed not too bad for it.

That's probably because it has dynamic pricing applied to it, so you'd get credit for titles you already own that are in that package.

Correct. I definitely would receive dynamic pricing.

Well spotted. My comparison was inaccurate, I'm sorry. Here's the revised list of extras from Platinum to BL:

  • NLT English-Greek Reverse Interlinear
  • Light from the Ancient East
  • The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition: vol. I: 1Q1–4Q273–vol. II: 4Q274–11Q31
  • Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
  • Greek Audio New Testament
  • Logos Bible Software Maps
  • More Light on the Path: Daily Scripture Readings in Hebrew and Greek
  • Records of the Life of Jesus
  • Josephus in Greek: Niese Critical Edition with Apparatus
  • Old Testament Greek Pseudepigrapha with Morphology
  • The New Testament In Greek (Westcott and Hort)
  • A Grammar of Biblical Hebrew, rev. ed.
  • A Student's Guide to Textual Criticism of the Bible

To those who have Platinum and are being offered the Biblical Languages upgrade - how much does it cost?

That isn't a question anyone can really answer for you due to dynamic pricing... (Users don't pay twice for the resources they own in base packages, academic discounts, etc). You need to contact Logos directly.
