Font & Formatting Issues in NOTE files

These anomalies did OT appear until the Logos 5 release of July 4, 2013. Up to that point, I had none of the issues listed below. Not only are these bugs but also I have encountered umpteen crashes and submitted umpteen crash reports. I have heard nothing nor seen anything addressing these issues. The release that came out today, does not address the issues. Do here goes ...

(1) When you import text from another application, the font size does NOT take on the default font size of the NOTE file. (Mine is set to Calibri 10pt but imported text is Calibri 12pt.)

(2) When importing text from another application, the last PERIOD is always missing. When you go to type in the period, it always takes on the last color attribute used (usually from the last NOTE file). So, to work-around this, I have to either select the period I typed in and set the proper colour attribute ... or copy a period from somewhere else in the NOTE file and paste it at the end of the text. Both these work-arounds are tedious and time consuming.

(3) If you apply a font attribute (Bold) and a colour attribute (Red) to some text and then go and try to apply it to another piece of text, the text will take on the Bold attribute but not the colour attribute. The work-around is to select the text, select the erase attribute, then apply the Bold/Colour attribute to the text. Another work-around is after using a Font & Colour attribute, select normal other text and apply an attribute to it ... then go to the second piece of text you tried to colour and now apply the desired Bold/Colour attributes. Again, frustration, tedious and time consuming.

(4) If you apply a colour attribute to a piece of text then go anywhere else in your NOTE file to add or insert more text, whatever you type is always in the color you last used ... not the colour of the text of the document (black). So, type the text, select the text and then apply the proper (black) colour attribute.

(5) Sometimes when you go to select text, the cursor moves but it does not hightlight the text. If you release the mouse button, the program will CRASH. If, while still holding the mouse button down and you hit the ESC key, you will not crash and the text will become highlighted. So ... when I'm selecting text ... one finger on the mouse button and another finger hovering over the escape key!

Am I the only one in the "Logos universe" who is experiencing these issues in a MAC environment? How many crash reports do I need to send Logos before they deal with these issues?

Sending crash reports to Logos is good, but not nearly as good as enabling and posting logs. If you are having troubles, instead of stewing about it, the best thing to do is to create a new thread explaining the issue and posting logs. Most of the time you should create separate threads for each issue.

    (1) When you import text from another application, the font size does NOT take on the default font size of the NOTE file. (Mine is set to Calibri 10pt but imported text is Calibri 12pt.)

Where are you pasting from? What is the format there? I ask because content being pasted typically comes with formatting applied to it and we do our best to maintain that formatting. The reason being that people often create notes or note content in other apps like Word or sometimes copy-paste from other sources such as Logos books, Safari, etc. While we can't support any arbitrarily formatted content, we do maintain what we can.

I was unable to reproduce the missing period. Logos can only retrieve what the other app puts on the pasteboard but I'm not aware of any reason that a character would not come through if it's on the pasteboard.

The color issues is related to #4 (see below).

Again, frustration, tedious and time consuming.

When applying it to another piece of text, does your selection include any characters (even spaces) that are of the same color you are trying to apply. There is a known issue with "mixed" selection whereby the editor will think that the color you are setting is already set. This bug will be fixed in the next release.*

    (4) If you apply a colour attribute to a piece of text then go anywhere else in your NOTE file to add or insert more text, whatever you type is always in the color you last used ... not the colour of the text of the document (black). So, type the text, select the text and then apply the proper (black) colour attribute.

This bug should be fixed in the next release.*

If, while still holding the mouse button down and you hit the ESC key, you will not crash and the text will become highlighted. So ... when I'm selecting text ... one finger on the mouse button and another finger hovering over the escape key!

This one throws me for a loop. As you can imagine, this is not intended or normal behavior. To my knowledge this issues has not affected anyone during the beta for the new editor. Obviously, we are doing our best to try and reproduce it but so far we've had little luck. Logs might be helpful as well as any other details you can think of.

    * If any of these upcoming fixes are important, you might consider joining the beta program in order to get them sooner and help ensure the fixes work to your liking even before they are out on stable. http://community.logos.com/forums/t/52967.aspx

Alan ... Thank you for your comments and observations. I spent about 2 hours online with Logos tech support and gave them access to my computer. I was able to replicate all the issues I had mentioned in my original post. My secession ended with tech support downloading several log files and I guess they will pass them on to one of their developers. In the meantime, I will limp along.

This will be fixed in 5.1a Beta 1 for beta testers and, in general, when 5.1a ships to the stable channel.

Not sure if it is relevant but I have experienced the same thing since switching to Logos 5 (Windows). Even if I paste plain text into a note it will always change size to 12pt, even though my default is 11pt.

    Thanks,

    Michael

This was reported while in beta (here originally) but sadly it still has not been fixed. This is very aggravating to me, s I paste a lot of atuff into my Notes to support the rest of the content.

Thanks Don, yes it seems like such a simple thing but it is very frustrating when you often paste into notes. Hopefully Logos can fix it soon.

There is still an active case in Development. We will update this forum post once this issue is fixed. Thank you [:)]
