Bug- ESV study bible notes - incorrect syncing
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but:
When I have the ESV study bible notes open in a link set with a bible and other resources, the esv study bible notes sync incorrectly. For example when I open my bible to psalms 148, the study bible notes sync to psalm 148 in the "history of salvation in the old testament" section of (which is an article in the back of the notes) rather than to the regular notes on psalms 148. I have had this happen with several passages.
Thanks
Alan

I can't reproduce this - in the screenshot below I have the ESV and ESV SB linked together and selected Ps 148 in the ESV
So it doesn't look as though it is a generic resource issue.
Can you provide a bit more detail?
- Are you running on Windows or Mac?
- Exactly what version of Logos are you running?
- Your post refers to this happening when you have "other resources" open. Does this happen if you just have the ESV and ESV SB open?
- Does it vary depending on where the Bible was previously opened to?

Graham,
Specifically I have noticed it with the following setup.
I have D.A. Carson's "For the Love of God" devotional open.
I have the NLT bible on the right panel configured to "send hyperlinks here" so that when I click on a reading from Carson, it opens up in the NLT.
I have the
NLT study bible notes
ESV study bible notes
BIble knowledge commentary
configured as a link set to follow the NLT bible (link set
In this setup when I select psalms 148 (which is part of the devotional reading for today July 12), the ESV notes jump to Psalm 148:3 in the "history of salvation" article in the back of the ESV study notes.
The screenshot is right after I have clicked Psalm 148 in the "Love of God" devotional.
I am using Windows 8.
Hope that helps.

I can confirm that using a version other than the ESV, sends the ESVSB to the wrong location, and using the ESV sends it to the correct one. In fact, if I use the ESV to open the ESVSB to the correct location and then change back to the NIV or the NLT (and delete the verses in the reference box so that only "Psalm 148" is there), the ESVSB jumps to the other location. I also note that it is not possible to delete the verse reference in the reference box to read only "Psalm 148" in the ESV Bible.
This looks like some sort of bug, or at least poorly designed feature.
However, if one types a verse referent in the reference box(even Psalm 148:3), the ESVSB will return to (or stay at) the correct location (regardless of Bible used). So the work-around is to type a verse number (like v.1), in the reference box when the ESVSB misbehaves like this.

[I'm replying to myself rather than editing my post, since some prefer this.]
Thinking about this some more, I note that the way that linking works with commentaries (and the like) in Logos can be frustrating at times. The linked set will always go to the first time in the resource that the referent is marked as a navigation point (milestone). I wish that Logos was configured to always find the next time a referent is marked as a milestone.

Hi Alan
Thanks for the detailed steps to reproduce. I can confirm this behaviour.
I don't have the Carson devotional you reference but simulated that using a notesfile with a link to Psalm 148.
I have also dropped the BKC out of the linkset and the problem persists.
If I substitute the NIV (84) for the NLT the problem persists.
So it looks as though it is "indirect linking" which is causing this.
Can you edit the subject field of your post to include the word "BUG:"? (Press "More" and "Edit")
(As this is against the stable release it would have probably been best in the Logos 5 forum - http://community.logos.com/forums/109.aspx - but I am sure it will be picked up here)

Sorry, I hadn't seen it was able to be demonstrated that cleanly[:$]
Looks like most of the analysis in my earlier post can be safely ignored[:)]
