I found this book very helpful and would love to see it in Logos. Decision Making and the Will of God: A Biblical Alternative to the Traditional View by Garry Friesen. I have it in paperback and would be willing to buy it again in Logos. It's worth the read.

Cheers,

    Hi Chelsea,

I have not come across this book before, but, having now read reviews, it certainly looks interesting. I agree that it would be good to have this in Logos.

Great on the thumbs up. It's definitely worth the read and challenges the traditional view of how to find God's will. Plus the authors use scripture to back up their case...Logos, please bring it in..

    Peace,

I can't wait... If only to put an end to this interminable transfer speculation. How did we go from being linked with Thiago and Fabregas to now being linked with Fellani... [:|]

Roll on the Charity Shield [:D].

p.s. I do hope I am wrong, but I suspect Chelsea will be the team to beat this season.

I read this book years ago, and it was very influential in my life.

I'd love to have it in Logos.

It's available in Kindle. Would be good for Vyrso.

    EDIT:

Another good book in this arena is Bruce Waltke's Finding the Will of God: A Pagan Notion? (also available in Kindle).

    EDIT:

I'm cross-linking this thread in on the Vyrso forum, since the Vyrso product manager should really see this suggestion.

This was one of the first theological-ish books I read as a Christian. It had some impact on me.

I did not realize then, but his conclusions were not entirely balanced. [That's not to say it was a bad book. Almost all books have one particular angle only, and do not capture alternative aspects.] At this point in my life, having seen more, read more and thought more, I have elements from the charismatic and mystical angles to round it out as well.

Following Rosie's link to Amazon and poking around there, I found that Friesen explains his views in one of these "X views on..." books:

Douglas S. Huffmann: How Then Should We Choose?: Three Views on God's Will and Decision Making -

"Henry and Richard Blackaby, Garry Friesen, and Gordon T. Smith present three principal views on God's will and how his will should affect our everyday decisions as Christians." - from the reviews, it seems this is very helpful and Huffman gives a summary of the debate and info on where other books on the topic fall into the positions.

In addition to Friesen's work, I'd very much like to see this in Logos (it's published by Kregel and it seems they have a hundred books in Logos, but none in Vyrso so far).

Have joy in the Lord! Smile

I think no book is without criticism and this one does have one weakness that I can see, but other that I'd say it's a great book.

You beat me to this analysis. Had this book for an Ethics text in Bible College. While he does make excellent criticism of the traditional view, he then tends to throw out the baby with the bath water. It has been a long time, but as I remember, he puts too much emphasis on human reasoning as the means of determining God's will.

4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,

    Ex 20.4

13 Who has directed the spirit of the Lord,
or as his counselor has instructed him?

14 Whom did he consult for his enlightenment,
and who taught him the path of justice?
         Who taught him knowledge,
and showed him the way of understanding?

    Is 40.13-14

Good criticism...I would just add that those who may put so much emphasis on the spiritual side of things, could find this book freeing in their decision making.

I too read this book many years ago. Changed the way I viewed things. Can't believe that at one time I thought God really cared about what colour of socks I put on. Get the book.

I wonder if there's a newer edition or book that is comparable to it.

    mm.

One of my former professor's said that this issue is one the many believers struggle with and this book has helped 'free' people in making decisions. I know it's helped me.

I'd love to see a Logos edition (or updated edition) but if there was something like it in Logos I'd love to hear about it...Thanks for your comments Milkman.

Logos-Can you please bring this book in? [:D]

Resources that I own dealing with this subject (haven't studied them, so cannot testify to their usefulness)

Strauss, Richard L. How to Really Know the Will of God. Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 1979.

Water, Mark. Knowing God’s Will Made Easier. The Made Easy Series. Carlisle, UK: Hunt & Thorpe, 1998.

Bright, Bill. 5 Steps to Knowing God’s Will: Study Guide. Orlando, FL: NewLife Publications, 1997.

Thought I had God's Will is not Lost by John MacArthur, but it must not be available in Logos.

Thanks for the suggestions Jack. I did a quick check and I have at least one of those in my library already, which is good. Thanks again.
