In Dave's Quick Installation instructs the last step is always holding down the Ctrl key will starting. What is the purpose of this?

It turns on logging. It also forces display of the signon screen, where you can:

  • Log in as a different Logos user
  • Start with an empty layout (useful for homepage corruption problems)
  • Work offline (useful for sync/update problems)

Why then is this necessary in the quick install instructions?

The article you're referring to is an unofficial work-around that allows installing Logos on multiple machines without re-downloading everything. It can go wrong. I guess Dave thought it would be good to have a log if it did.

That makes sense. Thanks for the information.
