Random Note Re-Formatting -- Will this EVER get fixed?
Notes have gotten better over time, but really annoying formatting issues still persist...
Some background of my issue:
I tend to make a large "Observations & Questions" note on each passage I'm studying to preach as a first step in my study. I also format things with bold, italics, and indents to mark what is Scripture, what is a questions, what is an observation... I also will copy and paste text from a relevant commentary at times. This formatting makes it very easy for me to go back through the notes later, then, and pull out what I need in sermon prep as I prepare my message. I had issues with this in version 4 where the notes would lose their formatting in random ways at times (sometimes turning everything into a huge font, sometimes turning everything in the note bold, or italic, or losing all indented text, etc.). This means a ton of lost time every time it happens and my having to go back to decipher what was what in my notes (and my OCD side having to reformat it all...). I moved away from Logos and began keeping all notes in Evernote, but missed it being linked to the text in Logos.
With version 5, I've cautiously moved back to Logos for my notes, and the random formatting seemed to be a thing of the past... until this week. Now suddenly all of my notes — ALL OF THEM – A COUPLE YEARS WORTH OF PERSONAL STUDY NOTES – are bold, italic, left-justified... I cannot begin to express how frustrating, infuriating, nauseating (fill in the adjective) this is...
Can we please get a stable text editor in the notes (including spell check like the rest of OS X) included with Logos?
I've literally spent thousands of dollars with you in the last couple years purchasing the Portfolio package (and more), moving away from $$$ of resources in Accordance seeing a lot of things I love in Logos. It's a tool I use daily and depend on heavily, so it's money well invested... but this sort of thing drives me crazy and is just plain unacceptable.
I've also spent hundreds on other "professional" software from Adobe, Apple, Quark... and while they have issues at times, they tend to get fixed and don't reappear release after release after release... I don't get it.
Sorry for the rant, I do love Logos, I do... but right now everyone in the coffee shop has to be wondering why the guy in the corner looks like he's going to throw his MacBook at the Barista.
Please fix it.... Please?????

I'm looking into this for you. Any additional information you can provide may be helpful in my investigation (when it started happening, what happened around that time). I see you also use other platforms like iOS, etc. Do you use iOS to read/edit/create notes?

Thanks for the reply!
It happened out of the blue while studying this morning.
I had a bible open, my notes, Study Bible and a Commentary. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I'm on a MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, running OS X 10.9.1, Logos 5.2 SR-3 (5.2.0.0091)
I flipped from the note I was working with to a previous note (both in the same note document) from a few weeks ago, and found that entire note to suddenly be bold, italic, left justified... When I went back to the current note, its entire format had also changed to bold, italic, left justified.
I assumed I must have done something to cause this and tried to undo it, but no formatting changed. So then I figured it was a quirk (as the text editor in Logos has never really seemed to work consistently for me) and I reformatted the entire note to the way I wanted and kept working. Things worked great until I switched back to the previous note and came back, it again had switched everything to bold, italic, left justified. This happened at least twice before I began checking other note files I still had in Logos. Each note I opened, large or small, had adopted the bold, italic, left justified formatting. I restarted Logos and had the same issue. After this I quit doing anything in Logos (as far as notes go) and moved back to Evernote where I've kept the bulk of my study notes for a few years and where I do the remainder of my sermon prep anyway.
As far as iOS goes, I rarely create or access notes with any formatting to speak of on iOS. I'll highlight things, but any notes I add there are limited to one note file, never any of my sermon prep ones.
For iOS apps, I'll go back and forth between Logos and Faithlife to study/read so that I can have more than 2 resources open at a time, but seldom open note files. I only use the Vyrso app for reading.
Thanks for the help!

Dear Alan, what kind of questions are these? All of we know that Notes in L4/5 became a dangerous tool, with an inpredecible and inestable behaviour. Some of us got lost notes and PBB going from L4 to L5, but in my case, didn't report it because since L4 decided to work in Word. (Others migrated to others softwares) There must be an easier, efficient and friendly way to work with notes in Logos to get the most from this necesary tool.

My questions are intended to provide the necessary information to guide my investigation into the originally reported issue. I'm still actively looking into it.

I'm sure about, Alan. Sorry, I think I didn't express well. I just wanted to show a little from my disappointment as well, regarding notes. Sorry. [:$]

Roger: I'm sorry you had issues in the past. [:(] I'm not sure what I can do for you with regard to that, but I'd be happy to assist you if you have any issues with the current notes editing functionality.

Thank for that Alan. With Libronix I used to be more enthusiastic with notes. In L4, although I guessed there were a fantastic world of options, I stumbled with something incredible to me, that you can't create a note by simply clicking in some reading that catched your atention!
The "rite" of creating FIRST a note, with its name, (as if you had already had a scheduled plan or theme to study), it's something that I simply can't deal with. If I got a revelation (Jesus!) on a reading, I just want to make a note! If I want to dig more on the theme, Ok; if I want to write a book, go for it! But please, give me the option of create a simple note from the scratch!
Thanks my friend for your attention!
And last but not least, I'm always stressed about my English. (But I'm working!)

Good news, Joshua, I was able to reproduce your bug by switching between "split view" and "full view" with bold/italic selected in the toolbar. This apparently applied that formatting incorrectly to the notes in the new view. Then, as soon as the note was then edited, would sync the change and overwrite your well-formatted note. [:(]
Please let me know if there are note documents affected that you may want to revert to a previous state due to this bug.

This should be fixed in 5.2a Beta 2.
