Bob,

I know this has already been discussed and answered by you, but I think this is a critical functionality that must be put in place.

While the majority of your customers are not being reached because there are no forums; and the majority of your newsgroup users are willing to switch to using the forums; there have been several users that have stated they will not switch.

Additionally, the past posts in the newsgroups will be lost and while some people at Logos have expressed that this information will be irrelevant with the release of v4.0, I beg to differ. I would HOPE that you are not completely changing how searching and other basic features are accomplished. While I would agree that many of the bug related posts would not necessarily be useful, and some of the diatribes would be better left in the bit bucket, there is still plenty of useful information.

I don't know what specific problems you and your developers found that made you discontinue development for that kind of functionality, but with more than 30 years of software development experience (and much of that in client-server, email systems, forum systems, and other related communications type systems) I cannot think of anything that would not allow a bridge between nntp and a web-based forum system. I would even be willing to donate time and expertise for developing support for this function.

I've been a dedicated customer since 2000 and have been on the newsgroups since I found them soon after that. While I don't post often, I read them daily and would like to thank you and your employees for always being around to listen to your customers.

I appreciate this offer and hope Libronix takes you up on it. I have been a loyal Logos customer since 1.6 days, attended the first Camp Logos in Oak Harbor (remember the cruise-it was COLD), and have used the newsgroups since day one. I read them daily and have really tried to use the forum, but it is just not the same. I like how the newsgroups messages come into the folders that I select, how it tells me if there are new messages that are posted, and how everything is organized. The forum seems very unorganized. Just my two cents worth. I would like to see Logos somehow keep the newsgroup.

That would be putting it mildly.  I would call it hodge-podge compounded.  It's like going to the grocery store and finding they had put the potatoes on top of the bread and the stinky soap in with the ice cream.  It's all in there, but wat een zoetje!

And that has been my point in previous posts - the "bridge" would be an archive of relevant NNTP posts made available to the web forum. It should not be a way to have both NNTP and web forum functionality running concurrently because a web post would continue to look like a NNTP post (big and ugly unless you manually trim the past messages), particularly as the MS implementation is slow and you often see "Sorry we are temporararily not available".
