Well, I guess I'm Catholic Now

Hard to tell (yes, I'm as usual joking, and no offense to folks who consciously became Catholic).

First I got my Aramaic Bible (hardcopy) from LitPress. That blessed me with a host of mailers from Catholic publishers. Plus generated odd looks from my postlady who attends our church (well, gee, the Catholic church was just too far to walk, so I became an evangelical).

Then today I officially got my first Verbum.com email. I'm not even signed up for any Logos.com emails, but this is Verbum.com. That's different. Of course, I don't have Verbum or even punched in the Logos5 verbum command. I do like Catholic authors. Maybe that was my mistake.

I sure hope Logos didn't buy LitPress's mailing list. Or all the other ones. Sigh.

Well, okaaay. Maybe the Catholic church isn't really that far to walk. (Yes, I'm joking).

So I guess we're saying glow-in-the-dark roseries, and a bobble-head Mary are in order, for our VW van?. I suppose our glow-in-the-dark white rabbit, plus the large flowers on the outside with the peace symbol might not be a good fit? (At our evangelical church, our license plate did raise eyebrows, but the flowers were OK.)

I started getting Verbum emails, too--after I had purchased some individual Catholic resources.

I think they just assumed that if I bought some, then I was going to buy more.

Yesterday or the day before I got two e-mails telling me that since I've been ordering prepubs and CP's I must want to be subscribed to the prepub and CP e-mail lists, thus they had kindly rectified my forgetfulness by adding me.

Of course, I very deliberately unsubscribed to those lists a looong time ago, opting for the RSS feed instead, and I've kept unsubscribing to them every time Logos has forcibly subscribed me to them, but you can't expect Logos to know that. After all, I've only complained on the forums, and possibly to Phil. I haven't gone all the way up to Bob or Dan.

At least this time they told me they'd added me...

Don .... he's my hero. Of course (and not offending once again), I consider him as one of many humans living on the face of the earth (as I do with all the religionists).

But the values he lived in South America, and now as a major religious leader are truly impressive. Wish that those same values could be expressed among more leaders, but beggers can't be choosers. Diamonds aren't diamonds because they're common. And I don't dare sign up for that pre-pub!!

fgh ... I guess what bugged me was the usual slimy marketing talk in the email (I know, I know, I'm too picky). But it assured me that the sender could save me immense amounts of money by personally signing me up to the pre-pub. Oh wow. A $1,700 pre-pub no less. The tone was that somehow by availing myself of the senders special attentions, life would be so good.

Plus I don't like emails from anonymous 'people' instead of companies. It's a red-flag. And worse, I don't even consider the pre-pub as 'Catholic' per se. I guess, once it got its Verbum monicker, it got 'turned Catholic'.

Now oddly, Accordance woke up and sent me their first email. Envious of Verbum.com!! Earlier, I bought a minimum package to get Carta (I think anyway). So they wanted to upgrade me from my public domain books to more public domain books. Whoo hoo! I didn't have the heart to tell them their latest software update can't handle their slow server timing out. I haven't yet downloaded their previous books (but get them on iOS).

Thank you Alex for your comments. There's a saying in Japan ... 'no means no' ... that samarai children were taught, along with proper use of bamboo swords. I'm really not sure why that was important. Maybe sometimes no didn't mean no. Today, I'd suspect no still means no (emails).

I put out an all-points-bulletin for any Catholic resources in my library (using my vaunted Logos search capability of course). I already cleaned out the evangelicals a while back. I found three Catholic Bibles (have to be more careful about THAT!), some 'patristic' orders (going to have to be more careful about 'patristic' ... that means 'Catholic'), plus there's those Dead Sea Scrolls Catholic authors (hmmm ... what to do? ... some of them are already dead).

But at least our glow-in-the-dark white rabbit is happy again, plus the Shinto shrine trinket that provides substantial protection for our car from Shinto evil spirits. They can be a real problem.

I hate to send this thread back to the 'top' again.

However, Alex (Renn) is due an apology. Alex is the Catholic Marketing Team Lead (his title).

And it turns out my poorly directed complaints about Logos marketing are misplaced. They weren't the source of my frustrations.

As it turns out, there's another group in Logos that sends out emails (but have another 'flag' that has to be set, separate from the other gazillion email flags in my account; Alex was kind enough to offer to set it for me).

In any event, Alex is due not only an apology, but many thanks for extra emails to try to sort it out. I'd say the Catholic Logos customers are especially lucky to have his services (and Logos as a company too!).

Maybe he'd like to ask for a transfer to the new Church of Christ Marketing Team (I made that up!).

Okie dokie. We tested out the secret no-email switch for the mystery group that doesn't work in Logos marketing but sends out emails to Catholics from the Verbum site. It doesn't work. Another computer-generated 'personal' email.

But I'm not upset at all. Today I received a special mailing from a Catholic relief group (well, gee ... they heard about my glow-in-the-dark roserie beads).

The envelope has a major warning: 'Do not shred; angel medallion inside'.

That theologically piqued my curiousity. I didn't remember any Biblical prohibitions about shredding angels or their medallions. But angels are heavily involved in Jesus' coming, so shredding them might not be good.

But as it turns out, the 'medallion' was METAL ... ergo shredding warnings.

Well, OK! I'm thinking to bring my angel medallion to church and put it in the plate.

We don't have little Caesars in our town. And the coin is too small for a pizza.

So the angel goes to church. It's a small church, so an angel appearing in the church offering will no doubt merit the pastor's involvement. 'Hmm ... this looks like it may well be a Catholic angel. The angel wings are little too pointy.'
